I mucked up with my photo labels - there are new pics of the Acan over in my RSM thread, including one showing some nice new polyps developing at the back. I'm just keeping a few zoos, a mushroom, and a green candycane in this little tank.
It is not the same as table salt - table salt contains additives like Iodine. If you are looking for a cheap substitute use ROCK SALT. Better still, do more water changes and you wont need it at all.
I don't think a sun coral would be a good idea - too many nutrients introduced when you feed it. This set-up will only work if you understand its limitations and respect the fact that it will only support a lightly stocked arrangement. If you want to keep a full range of corals and fish, then something like the RSM is probably the minimum you'll require.
Yes there is... someone I know is working on that right now. I reckon a single 55watt T5 out of an RSM might fit nicely
My tank is going to be the most hot-rodded Hailea400 ever!!!!!!
I don't think a skimmer would be that useful - water changes are the best way or removing nitrates etc, and replenishing other good nutrients, and its only three buckets worth anyway - probably easier than cleaning a skimmer and doing water changes (because you'll have to do changes anyway).
I think so - a firefish, or a small wrasse, and or a cleaner shrimp. I plan on putting a Bangaii Cardinal in there. Check with John about what will be suitable.
Good Dixon. Honestly, marine stuff is so expensive that you really can't afford to use cheap components - and don't forget most marine fish come from the wild, so you have a moral obligation to look after them, including buying the best gear that you can afford.
I really must stop skim-reading the interwebs
Here's a thought - go to your local fish and chip shop - lots of them have posters with all the wierd fish that Sealord etc pull up
Yep, they cost more up front but they last, you can calibrate them, and remember marine stuff is a lot more sensitive to temperature change, so you have to buy a good one. As I've said earlier, there are no more corners to cut
Just don't forget that this is the bare minimum - you can't cut any more corners at all, and it will cost quite a bit for salt for the weekly water changes. Have fun
