  1. there are clear plastic roll up sides and heat pads under floor, we bring them inside for the coldest months though want to setup a solar hot water system for heating and see if that improves it
  2. so if your axy for some reason spontaneously changed he would become undesirable ambystoma mexicanum is an allowed species, is it not? now we get to the fine part or interpretation of the law
  3. a good article, haven't seen the approach of injecting thyroxine before seems to work on a scientific basisand dose rates are given do you know if there is a follow up article on longevity of subject animals i have always felt that changes to them in a mature state were harder on their physiology than in a younger animal have changed only a few adults but a lot more youngsters my brother and i fed them thyroid gland from abbatoir and changed a few this is over 35 years ago, changed a few young ones about 15 years ago with gland, iodine and water reduction, they lasted quite a few years.
  4. sorry wilson if i made an assumption on what you wanted it for my apologies people who have had thyroid problems or removal take this usually in pill form
  5. yes i have had salamanders in the past was going to try on some goldens, but didnt get round to it. ended up selling all the young go to freezing works and see if you can get some thyroid glands from sheep, and feed this in small amounts you'll need to find a cooperative knifehand also small amounts of marine iodine in water and slowly lower water level do this with young axys under 2 inches. older ones if they do change dont live very long the big problem with changing them is the axolotyl in the pet trade is one that tends to stay in the larval form (axolotl) it was easier for scientists to keep and breed these for study into limb regeneration
  6. kills a lot more axolotls than it changes to salamanders have to know what your doing
  7. we run adults in fully planted enclosures, potting mix sand etc, but wouldnt run young animals on same footing potting mixes can contain bacteria and pathogens harmful to young lizards and even humans Also the temp you need to keep them at will dry out plants, so you will need to water more often which will raise the humidity, which will make a lovely environment for fungi and moulds that might impinge on your dragons respiratory system In an enclosed system there is not the airflow there is in a bigger environment as repto said on another thread, at the price they are why take the chance :-?
  8. they make a nice pet Gatito post some up here if you want to

  21. found at mayor island can catch adults on very small barbless hooks with pipi on hook, young ones are pretty, nice yellow with almost neon blue dots and dashes all over the bodt, caught them with a suck gun, oversized clear perspex bicycle pump with a diaphragm valve on end made at work they hide in crevices in the rocks, used to catch two spot demoiselle, big eye and the odd yellow tail blue damsel that way as well some of the triple fins and clingfish were amazing too i used to spend every weekend in the water or fishing for about 3 years so a lot of time was spent searching the rockpool life is amazing with weedfish and triplefins and crustaceans just as good as tropical marine but different, you got it yourself and maybe spent time with family doing it http://www.fishbase.gr/Summary/SpeciesS ... p?id=12465

  23. sorry no shark pics, was about 15 years ago and more, too busy with the passion and excitement of it all used to go out on fishing trips and bring back any oddities we came across. used to have a syringe and needle for emptying swim bladders that blew up from rapid trip to the surface on some types of fish. first shark (thresher) came off a commercial fishing boat brought to me out of a netted catch, went to the local wharves and asked boat captains if they could keep any good stuff they brought in, cost me a few beers or bottle of bourbon set up plastic drum on its side with 12 volt bilge pump for flow and crew would pump new water in for me every 30 mins or so caught dog fish in the harbour at certain times of the year, i think they come in to spawn helped Harold at early wonderworld shop in rotorua with set up for local freshwater, they had a large concrete trough with a window in it and kept some large fish in there, big Kingies even
  24. an incredible amount of work sorting old threads, would take someone with dedication and a passion to see changes made.
