one is a native species that is seriously threatened that would be lucky to breed 2 chicks a year, the other a prolific exotic import that can be easily replaced a different proposition to well bred racing pigeons that are not so easy to replace though pigeon racers all over the world have to contend with predatory birds, power lines and weather, luck of the draw

the fact the animals were advertised publicly and articles written in national papers and on tv, no action by authorities in that time led people to reasonably believe that they were alright to be in the country then 18 months later the animals are seized and destroyed is an unacceptable action by the authorities and should be compensated for

that stock of supposed babies that were sold, when dna tested were said to be unrelated so couldn't have been from 1 hatching hence believed to be smuggled so efforts were made to get rid of them to prove a point to smugglers sad to see the animals put down sad to see the hobby go further underground not a good public relations exercise all round

the australasian harrier is a bit slower catching pigeons one visits our place each year and peels out a few, pigeons and guinea pigs amazing to watch them chase a pigeon down through the trees, spends about a week here and then moves on
