With both fish in and no fish cycling you require some test kits for both to measure levels and stages of the cycle. with fish in you build the bacteria levels as you go and no fish should be tortured in the process as you will do water changes as ammonia etc rise. Starting with 2 or 3 small fish, depending on size of tank and doing 1 or 2 20% water changes a week has always worked for me so long as an eye is kept on toxin levels.

  13. I did this to heat my 3000 litre. It was fairly basic but ran the tank over winter. Without a thermostat control I would have cooked the fish, used 2 200 L insulated drums for overnight heating. Sneaky2 has a system on the forum in reptiles and amphibs I think.

  16. Sponge probably a Tethya spp., pink strands maybe Corallina officinalis and green algae on shell possibly Enteromorpha spp.
  17. Marine snail eggs come in all sorts of structual forms.
  18. Loaches maybe your option as others can be fin nippers.
