  1. you are right on both counts mincie and turtleman where the sexes are hard to tell apart more than one factor must be taken into account when making an assessment of sex the only sure way to tell is DNA testing or when a BT gives birth or drops sperm packets

  10. can be sexed by width of head and general body shape females have a wqider waist need to be older to do this though if left in a bare bottomed tank the males will shed sperm packets can be "vented" but takes experience to do this

  12. sometimes when plants are added to a bare tank, fish then have somewhere to hide so go into a "flight mode" ie: hiding from predators does he have any companions in the tank you also state so water parameters may still be settling down, maybe regular water changes white spots on head may be signs of being a male ? as it is breeding time for goldfish
