young axys need live food it is the movement they react to that's why they eat each other sounds like you will have to establish daphnia for the next time and try microworms for now

+1 internal patch is better than external on a base ensure crack in base is flush before inserting patch can be done in 2 or 3 pieces if it is difficult to get a full sheet in you then have a double base in place
