  1. stop the frustration put another 4 fish in keep up the water changes wait another week then put in some more fish keep up the water changes observe fish at least daily any abnormal activity or look to the fish do a water change sit back and enjoy your tank i have an aqua one 980 set up from scratch, overstocked to the max as had no where else to house the fish fish were in an outside pond that heating failed on just water changes have kept it running
  2. do you have any fish in there yet?
  3. so long as they have some where to "dig in" they should be ok in auckland area turt keepers in your area will have a better idea
  4. :slfg: you want to try amphibian genetics even the experts don't understand them
  5. nice project caserole good luck should produce some nice fish
  6. you will need to grow fry on as david said while resultant fry may be visually red it doesn't necessarily mean that they will pass it on to the next generation but it will be the easiest way to do it without having heaps of pairs breeding
  7. personally i have found breeding yellow to yellow over a few generations can lighten the yellow by breeding back to the normal colour then breeding those resultant animals can help to deepen the yellow if i can equate it to a painting set in a simple form blue and yellow make green if you remove the blue you are left with yellow putting a bit of the blue back in can make the yellow darker this will all be dependant on the way the gene for yellow is expressed
  8. can only make the gold strain stronger may also give you a deeper gold colour in the future
  9. :rotf: does kermit want to play
  10. didn't you get the parcel i sent :mbh:
  11. yes it will still cycle though slower
  12. you are not creating an interspecific hybrid they are the same fish http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hybrid_(biology)
  13. throwing the lot in will give you lots of variety but will end up producing a lot of rubbish as well personally i would pick 2 or 3 nice trios of the same type of colour and confirmation and breed true this can be done in smaller tanks use the big tank to raise the fry until they are showing good colour then onsell
  14. i think the OP is looking for a "clean" look to the tank ie: no pipes, cables etc.
  15. Something like this? you could take return back through base as well you would have to make sure diameter of pipe could handle the flow
  16. once the pump stops the water level will even out unless there is a one way valve to stop it
  17. tried to just remind all of the rules but if you like the law can be applied fairly towards all those who posted contravening the rules
