    the same principal by the looks of the inside of them, they are very similiar to a pool filter I am putting together for one of my ponds. just the different media as mentioned by David R instead of sand

    how big are the water dragons? if young then the adult locusts could be a bit big for them

    why are you trying to eat locusts, of cause they would seem hard! fry them up first with some butter :thup: the dragons would probably prefer them live though

    jc254, theory will never win over practical experience, you are trying to argue with one of New Zealands top keepers of waterdragons with many years of knowledge from keeping and observing them in basically natural conditions - he knows first hand what he is talking about. Dragonz - read the advice given to you - there has been plenty in this thread! Dont force brumation, create the environment to let it happen naturally as per the advice given.

    blue tongues were flagged due to being live bearing and knee jerk reaction do you not think that they already know that half the exotic reptiles here can brumate/hibernate outside in Auckland

    In Australia water dragons are found naturally down in Victoria which is similiar to Auckland if not a little colder in winter, as long as they are able to keep dry while going through the dormant time over winter they are fine outdoor year round up here. lucky us aye!

    Just found one of my ewingii dead, these have been a favourite of mine and I was pretty gutted to have lost one, got me thinking on what the normal lifespan in captivity is? The one of I just lost would have been around 4-5 years old. anyone else thats keeping these have an idea on longevity of life?

    not high enough, if you haven't got a permit yet you won't get one with an exo terra, need an outdoor enclosure around 600x600x900mm with 2-3 sides open air mesh

    shows you how high and powerful the Tsunami was! blows me away the amount of footage that shows the waves ripping through buildings etc with cars in driving in the background seemingly oblivious to what is about to hit them

    RE nuclear power, we could always run a combination of solar/wind on all buildings making mass power generation unnecessary, big outlay to begin with but in the long run....

    love the frog tank Matt, gives me inspiration to sort some of mine in regards to my outdoor one, yes living art full wire bottom, only small mice getting in and if they do good luck to them.

    I personally don't think I could kill one, would probably just keep it in a suitable enclosure for the rest of its life and adhere to the requirements

    if we are so worried about invasive species and helping the native populations of reptiles maybe DoC should exterminate the worst offenders, humans and cats. we live in an urban area and have growing populations of both Rianbow and native skinks after planting and landscaping to promote them living on our property, from what I have seen Rainbows have had no impact on the natives living in the same areas with the natives florishing.

    these guys live outside, were just in for a check up. in saying that I have gecko inside at different times for a couple of months at a time, if conditions are suitable I see nothing wrong with inside displays as long as they get time outside also.
