if you keep blasfeming Ira i will tell on you Pufferfishnz there are many many types of Cichlids and some fish that are but should not be and visa versa. some from 2cm peacefully little blighters right thru to huge ( as in feed a family of four for weeks) nasty beggers and back down to 2cm swimming stomachs so research research and then ask some more there are no hard and fast rules and different strokes for different folks..I mean just look at Ira So take your time..no such thing as silly questions just silly answers...tho I am starting to doubt that today...lol

but thats the thing mate, L46 are a specieS that are on the provisonal list NOW. Hence all the interest the person you are talking about down here with the L46 and was listed on TM...if it is the same one ...had a breeding colony but killed all but one Isnt it interesting that palsy is spelt that same as Palsy its a bit like the plural version of Pus. thats why I like mucopurilent exudate...and no I am not even off topic yet. So sorry to hear that the topic of L46 beening imported has had it. I was keen to establish a breeding colony. Oh well Firenenz (hope I at least got that right) back to our whine list I suppose.
-
interesting about l46 . lol another thing that I have seen is that a lot will be brought in as pairs but they are mis matched or all of one sex ...hard to get those fish breeding....lol. Still I have to agree the analogy re the wine industry is good. I spend 10's of thousands over the last 20 years and have become well know...for better or worse...in the local "scene" I am personal friends with some of the longest standing members of our community...the same as many of you...this gives me "perks" but it also means I spend my money where my mouth is. The Dfs are a good example...by the time the shipment cleared those fish are worth many hundred dollars each...and now I cant get the blardy things to breed. But they are here and worth every cent...and I would sell any fry for a few dollars just to keep them here. AND they were never on any importers wholesale list

better to refer to wine than whine hmmmmm try teh montrose black shiraz. not that upmarket but 2000 was a nice year

may I recommend the Pegasus Bay Maestro or prima donna if you are into reds, the aria if you like stickies or the resiling is another good bet 2001 Maestro retailed for around $120 a bottle in 2004 Purchased several cases and have had it cellering for last wee while. Purchased prior to public release for $35-40 a bottle had forgotten about that so thanks for the hint

Thanks for your PM Charlie. I wont edit my post but you should understand that just because you have access to one retailers lists does not mean you have access to ALL of the wholesalers lists nor the lists of all the importers as there is a big difference between the two. A Good example would be this: I have a good size school/colony of Dicrossus filamentosus in my fishroom. They were imported less than 2 years ago Now you go look at the list and see when they last came in? Or perhaps read the posts around the l128s that has been developing where a member states that 6 plecs were purchased from the importer prior to them making any list Perhaps you would care to edit your post now?
-
How would you know charlie? if they are on a list...and they are. Then isnt that different to if they are being imported. And if they are coming in...and I believe they are then do you get lists from all the importers...or just the wholesalers? Just wondering?

Hi Puffer, LOL the general rule of thumb for these guys is the bigger the better remember that with ANY type of cichlid a large percentage of your tank will be taken with a backgrond of some sort if you are wanting the whole thing to look nice. So one way of working out what sort of fish you want and are suitable is to pick a tank size you can manage and afford and then work back from there. Some of us have "big" tanks and are always looking for more. Some have "smaller" tanks and are happy with that. Most people laugh when they are told that these guys are addictive and that once you have a tank you wil soon be looking for bigger faster stronger better but most people here will also nod and smile sagely as that is generally the case. I no i no...lol Iq in the mid 130s and I cant speel or type right Good things My patienst dont knwo that eh? LMAO

As i suggested to Rob, the first step might be asking Zev and or Caryl to ask if we can have a page on this site. that would mean that any breedings/speices lists etc could be sticked to the top of the page and we could have an appisto chat in our own space. whilst this might seem a lot of work it would be the first step to gauging interest and establishing common ground whilst under the auspices of FNZAS. are they proof that man love is as platonic as eating a bowl of chips whilst watching football on telly?

better to be stripe breeding than breeding on the spot as for breeding pairs you leave my sister out of this. you will upset the baby I was not hoping for beating around the busch more a busch beating. hard to get good help it seems when you insist on breading wifedus blacknblueye. Does this species require special feeding and can i as previously asked place this fish in a small planted tank also will john Key charge me a fart tax on this speices like he wants to on my cow fish?
-
Oh maybe that is it I shall ask mum auntie or uncle bro May I also ask if you have had any luck in breeding those zebra thingies and if so what will you be selling the offspring as. I only ask because we were debating the benifits of line breeding just yesterday. (insert lines from deliverence here, boy)

Zev Zev get your pointy stick supasi is swearing again ban him I say ban ban ban or at least wash his mouth out with soap carbolic soap the foaming kind go on pleeeeeeaaaaaaaasssssse pffft
-
Ahhh is that it LA, I have always wondered as living in a disused mine makes it hard to have those besides if I put windows in will my banjo not rust up will i not get arthritis in my 6th and 7th banjo fingers or will the zebra droppings help keep my hands warm Do you think teh high juniper content in the water and the herbal smoke will harm these fish or do youthink the hydro ponics water will be ok for them as well it is a tropical 20 degress and in the summer a cooler 26 degrees
-
always time for more harder and longer lasting wood in my opinon ... ....but I also prefer less temprence and more juniper flavouring. That or burnt carmel mon I struggle with the temperate thing cause I come from the west coast. It is the last place on middle earth that temperate plants grow so does that mean if I move home that this zebra and my jags and lionheads will be ok in an outside enclosure (was thinking a spare header tank I have from the plantation mon) or will I need to follow elvis's example ( ) and create a jungle room ( george george) This is not to much of a problem as if I have to do this I will just cut a hole in the side of the house

wellllll....I am pretty sure it is a male LOL was trying to pick a few bigger angelicus up but seems very few around in my price range. Looked at getting some from HFF but again for a gouod group is more $$ than sense at teh moment for me. A work on progress now I have teh red emps to help with spawning them My favourite Synos are angelicus So far fav plecs are royal panaques but i did like very much some of those you listed the other day and males...well luck of theh draw but has been my experience that females are... well... just to catty for my own good

Hi Livingart, I was wondering, that zebra you are looking to id. Do you think I could keep one in a 60 cm tank with a lionhead and a leopard fish....? I mean they are all african fish so must be kinda the same eh?

Define what is a 'huge', 'big' or 'massive' tank
