  1. Here's a reminder to all Clubs, remember any club delegate may be present and vote. Any FNZAS Club member may be present as an observer but cannot vote. So far only one delegate has advised they will be coming. PM me if you wish to go and I'll send you the address details.
  2. Hi All, To clarify the National Fish Shows happening soon, heres the details: 2006: Masterton - Livebearers 2007: Hamilton - Full Open Show Here's the link to this years show: http://www.fnzas.org.nz/national_fish_show_2006/ Next years details will be posted shortly. Last Update: 22/8/2006
  3. No, both people have been either engaged or no answer... I'm getting frustrated over these two, can't imagine how you're keeping it together with the number you've had to sort out.
  4. This is why a standard form is required, - it should make sure the required information is sent... :-?
  5. Our constitution requires us to produce a quarterly journal. It's one of the objects of the society. As such, it must be made in paper form. It does not mean it can't be put on some form of electronic media as well though. Caryl is already very busy creating the AW and YB. Maybe if there is enough interest, the AW and YB could be professionally sourced on CD at an extra cost to members.
  6. While naming these clubs may not be the best form, it's certainly going to inspire them to get their act together next year!! All clubs get notified of the due date for the lists and payments to be in by. It's also listed in the yearbook. Any club or club member claiming they don't have the information needs only look in their yearbook to find when any and all of the clubs responsibilities are due by. It's a club's committee's responsibility to make sure they do whats required. Can't remember how many phone calls and how many hours I've wasted chasing people...
  7. It has been steadily getting harder and harder to get information and capitation fees in on time. Despite regular reminders going to clubs it would seem they get lost at committee level. In my travels I've discovered not all clubs are as organised as others. Not matter how much you try to help them with reminders, emails and phone calls, things just don't happen. I will be working with clubs this year to try to improve the current situation. It appears we need a common form for membership application. Every club should be using membership forms EVERY year for existing members to rejoin. Not only does this give the club the legal financial record of their payment but updates the membership records with new addresses, phone numbers and email. I will be circulating a new membership form to all clubs in the near future. It will have check-boxes to cover the legal privacy law element of the yearbook. There will also be a new field for FNZAS Website username. This will also help ensure we get all the required information to assemble the yearbook and also ensure it is consistent from club to club. Also on the form will be the final date the membership list AND capitation cheque must be in by. Any submissions after this date will be omitted in the yearbook. It's long overdue that we tidy up our acts (all clubs) and make sure we all do our bit to make the voluntary job we club execs do much easier.
  8. Yeah and I know who the 27 or so people were as well as which importers got involved... As usual the few put in the big effort so the many could benefit.
  9. Before jumping to any conclusions, it's best to read the whole document. Below is a link the Biosecurity and on the page you will find a downloadable DRAFT of the document. It is now open for submissions. http://www.biosecurity.govt.nz/strategy ... tation/ihs The FNZAS Fish Committee is on the case and has been working with MAF on the whole project. I don't want to see anyone complaining about the list. You all had the change last year to make submissions to the species study. This document is the result. As very few of you bothered to do anything, the list is smaller than it could have been. As for the species being removed, if there is good reason, we in the hobby should be supporting protecting our environment. If there's no a good reason we'll be making a submission on behalf of the NZ Hobbyists.
  10. We will be having an executive meeting at 1:00pm Saturday September 2nd in Turangi. Any delegate present at conference 2006 or any new club delegate may attend the meeting and vote on any issue (provided the FNZAS secretary is notified who the new delegate is two weeks prior to the meeting). As the meeting is at someones private address, please PM me if you wish to attend and I'll email you the address and agenda. Observers are also welcome but do not have voting rights...
  11. Well, if you're going to have large cichlids then kiss goodbye any idea of having plants. There's two reasons: 1. You either have plants and do the job properly or it's a waste of time trying - the plants will just slowly die off. 2. Large cichlids will continually uproot almost any plant you try to grow.
  12. Remember to think of the practical side too. If you're going to use sand you'll need under gravel heating to get a slow current flow otherwise the gravel will go rotten and kill the plant roots. I've found the best stuff is a compromise between sand and gravel. I use a small graded stone of 1-4mm in size. It does not pack down and there is enough flow in the gravel to stop it rotting. The flow is not enough to leach out the fertiliser though. I use an inert stone with no organics added. These will arrive all by themselves anyway from waste. I add fertiliser tablets to control whats going into the gravel. Before I had to move, my tank had been set up for eight years without having to rip up the gravel and start again.
  13. I've used them for a short time and found they worked pretty well. Better than T8's but not as good as MH. Seemed to be about 1/2 way between.
  14. Hi guys, I recommend you read these as they've had quite a big update. Nothing really new, just all the assorted bit and pieces from round the site all rolled into one now... http://www.fnzas.org.nz/fishroom/the-ru ... t3805.html
  15. Well, at least they'll get upset off the forums... 8)
  16. As long as the pH is between 6.5 and 6.8 and the GH is high enough the snails should be fine. You want a decent GH for growing plants as well. Salts of Mg, K and Ca basically make up you GH and have little effect on pH. Plants like 6.5-6.8 best. If the plants are growing really well you won't need snails anyway. Just a gentle siphon on the surface of the gravel every week or two is enough to keep things clean (as long as there's no undergravel filter).
  17. Just a suggestion: If you want a price from a member who is also a wholesaler / reseller then use the Private Message system - that's what it's there for... Then, if you accidentally ask the wrong person it's not in the public eye and they won't get upset by it (as much).

Ok since you two seem so juvenile and can't control yourselves, you've just ruined yet another good thread. Topic is now locked to stop more foolish/childish behaviour!

Wasp, best you not try to start yet another pointless arguement with Layton!!
  20. I've joined the PVC return tubes to my tank with standard PVC cement and about 2 minutes later started the pump. The fish didn't seem to care at all. It was fresh-water though so maybe less toxic to the fish than marines. It's only the solvent thats a problem. There was no smell coming from the water coming out the outlet end... It was an urgent fix from a busted pipe. I wouldn't normally do it. Standard PVC cement is completely non-toxic when fully cured.
  21. Mmm, Pizza!! Looks like I'll make it tomorrow. The weather forecast says rain / clearing so the Napier-Taupo should be open. If not then it could be a long drive...
  22. I have contacted some local agencies to see if we can't add a link to existing information so hobbyists can easily find out what and more importantly what not they can keep. The information does exist, it's just almost impossible to find it (even with Google). I found it once but can't remember where and did not bookmark it... As soon as I get permission and links I'll make a new page under the main site address www.fnzas.org.nz/.... Once done, I'll add a link in this thread to kick start people in the right direction.
