  1. Hi Derek, I checked out the plant I was talking about at conference. Its not ulvaceus, but its not crispus either. It looks like it may be another hybrid. Will let you know when I find out what it is as it requires the same style of pollination.

    Fluval blockage

Hi Caryl, I had the same problem. I used the inlet filter off a powerhead to solve the problem. The type is Powerhead The Model is 802 Get the filter cartridge that goes underneath the powerhead (you can buy it separately) and fit it to the fluval inlet. You need to make a small spacer as the Fluval pipe is much too small for the filter outlet. The fiber filter cartridge will evenually clog up and you have to throw it out (never had any success trying to clean them). Once this is gone, you need to replace it with something else. I use a fine plastic mesh tied over the outside of the filter. Every couple of weeks it needs to be cleaned, but it works really well. It also helps keep the Fluval cleaner for longer.

    R/O units

Hi Paul, There is a unit you could consider. It is made by Nature's Spring and marketed in NZ by Nature's Sunshine Products in Auckland. You should be able to buy the unit for about $350.00. It is one of the cheapest units around, and produces 70-80 liters in 24 hours. If you live in an area with a pay for use water meter, watch out. RO units waste heaps of water (it will take 200-280 Liters of water to get 40 Liters of purified water). If you want more info, email me at: [email protected] Regards Warren [ This message was edited by: Warren on 2001-06-08 03:07 ]
  4. Maybe the website could have 2 sections to the plant list. Commonly available plants now, and all plants. That way anyone can post any information and it can be sorted into where ever is suitable. I like the ideas presented and would like to participate where possible. I think a national database is an excellent idea. It need not necessarily be restricted to plants, however plants would be an excellent start. Any keen people could post their experiences about a certain type of plant, which could be filed with that species for others to view and maybe help them.
