  1. is it the dwarf neon rainbow? My tank definitely isn't big enough to hold the normal rainbows. The neon rainbow fish is a bit expensive for me at the moment, they are $22/pair from Hollywoods.
  2. Hi all Wanting to get some a few fish for my tank, but don't know what to get. 135L, 25ºC, planted (so no plant eaters). Currently have - 1 Peacock Eel - 6 Columbian Tetras - 2 Siamese Algae Eaters - 2 GBA - 2 Angelfish Would like - colorful - schooling (optional) - mid-bottom dwelling fish - not too expensive Previously had (so prefer not to buy again) - Blue Rams - Butterfly Rams - Cories Suggestions appreciated, running out of ideas here. Cheers
  3. I always go to the Mt. Roskill one. I'm sure they are all know lots about fish keeping, but problem I never find them very friendly, most of them anyway. From my experience they never bother to say hi or greet customers when they see them, never come ask you if you are ok without you asking them first, generally not very friendly and talkative. Who else agrees with me?
  4. agree with above, never change filter or filter media completely, or you'll lose all the bacteria and need to cycle the tank again.
  5. hi guys, long time since I've been here 10ppm nitrate is NOT A PROBLEM. It's very difficult to get it under 10, possible if you have a very large tank, lots of plants and very little fish. I say for most fish anything under 30-40 is safe. My is always at about 20ppm.
  6. yes I'm am excited, how long do they take to spawn? I can't leave the light on 24/7 though? They are more aggressive than before, before they were peaceful and friendly, now they'll chase anything that go near the eggs.
  7. the eggs are light or slightly golden in colour. Have 3 angels in my tank, two of them are always around this area.
  8. Noticed these eggs during water change today. Can someone confirm they are angelfish eggs? Reason is my angelfish been hanging around the eggs all day, plus my siamese fighter now spends most of its time hiding on the bottom of the tank. Cheers
  9. not sure, but approximately male is about 6-7cm long. the smaller one is about 4cm?
  10. Hi all, bought 2 blackeyed golden bristlenose 8 months ago. They both seem healthy and doing well. One of them is male, growing very well, getting bristles, but not full size yet. (how long does it take to get to full size?) I feed them algae pellets, zucchini, and pellets that are intended for clown loaches. Problem is the other one has hardly grown at all, almost the same size as when I bought it 8 months ago, what can cause it not to grow? cheers
  11. they are peaceful fish but anything that can fit in their mouth they regard as food.
  12. ok will buy a light timer. so looks like all going to be ok. cheers for the help
  13. how reliable are light timers? I'm a little concerned they'll malfunction and leave my light on for a week! Probably best if I get one right now, see how it goes in the next 2 months so I know I can trust it.
  14. Hi all going to australia in July, for 7 days, would my tank be ok without light or food? or do I need to sort something out? especially concerned about plants, Java Fern, E. Osiris, some Amazon Swords. Also concerned about clown loaches and eel, other fish will probably be ok. cheers michael
  15. one male betta, with a few tetras. get some nice plants as well.
  16. Update He has just died, it happened very quickly, 2 hours ago was breathing very rapidly and hardly moving at all, looks paralyzed lying on its side, just now I found it dead. huge disappointment this guy has been in my tank for over a year.
  17. definitely hoping it's not tumour. will go into fish shop tomorrow to see what I can do to treat it etc... The lump started as a little red spot, which looked like a fish bite or something, possibly from another clown loach? This is the dominant one, the second biggest one is also fairly dominant, then the two smaller ones never fight against each other.

    Blue Rams

They shouldn't be aggressive, however my two blue rams sometimes tries to take a nip out of my siamese fighter's fin, but it's never a problem.
  19. Still not eating but slightly more active, though still just very little. Some patches of its skin seems to have gone darker, can't manage a very close look at it swims away if I get too close. Anybody else had the same problem? Any advice would be highly appreciated as I really want to keep this guy alive. cheers
  20. Hi all My largest clown loach seems to have a bit of a problem, it seems to have a lump on top of its head, above the eyes, quite a obvious bulge. This might have come from a red spot it had at the same place, few days ago I noticed a little red patch where the lump is, might have been a bite from another fish or something. Not as active or interested in food today. Anything I can do? Help appreciated cheers
  21. I'll try to do something, personally I wouldn't leave such an expensive fish in a tank with ammonia. Maybe put it in another tank for now? Or swap some cycled media over, or use more media.
  22. Clown Loaches, mine sometimes each my amazon sword leaves.
  23. well it's normal, fish die sometimes without a reason, if it's just this one I wouldn't be too worried, but if more die in the following days/weeks I would look for further problems. This one could have died of anything, heart-attacks...strokes...
  24. few weeks to fully attach, I used white string and it worked fine, just the normal white sewing threads. Also tie it fairly tight, not so tight it cuts into the roots though.
  25. was it in a bag? or enough oxygen?
