  1. Beatrix Potter says it's smoke so screw you... More from the book.... "Riddle me, riddle me, rot-tot-tote! A little wee man, in a red red coat! A staff in his hand, and a stone in his throat; If you'll tell me this riddle, I'll give you a groat." (Bonus points if you knew what a groat was without googling 'cos I sure didn't)
  2. Ohhhh smoke! This is on the babby's nursery rhyme cd!!! *excited*
  3. Aww I'm working next weekend or we could have had a road trip
  4. Well, it's the last week to get the earlybird special. Registration is $60 from Friday onwards. We would really appreciate it if people/clubs let us know they are coming asap as we need to confirm numbers. Please don't leave it to the last minute.
  5. The cafe is already there & he's been running it 6months + so that's all sorted. (I keep having to correct you today P44, geeez. 8) )
  6. I would 'cos I live 10 minutes away. I'd definitely bypass all the Coffee cultures etc at The Palms. But if I lived further away? Probably not  But for me, in these harsh economic times, cafes are an occasional treat & instant coffee at home is the norm. So I'm probably not the target audience anyway.
  7. http://www.stuff.co.nz/life-style/cutestuff/3590839/Octopus-flees-with-camera This is great! [edit] I have been informed that Suapsi beat me to this by 30mins on another forum, which I'm not a member of anyway. I swear I didn't steal it It was on the front page of stuff so I'm sure lots of people saw it.
  8. Concrete = instant death. Flushed = ... Well, this is how waste is treated in Chch -->http://www.ccc.govt.nz/homeliving/wastewater/treatmentplant/chchwastewatertreatmentplant/index.aspx So assuming the fish survives the underground network of pipes, it's probably going to be caught on one of the screens that filter out debris until it dies. But most likely it'll be a slow nasty death due to all the faecal matter and chemicals that go down the toilet, shower, kitchen sink etc.
  9. I've done it this way too, but it can take a bit of practise. I think I didn't use enough force or the wrong angle or something the first time and the poor neon went flying out of the net before hitting the concrete & landed somewhere in the grass and I couldn't find it to finish the job so he would have just sat out on the lawn til he died  So in future, I'd probably take the clove oil approach. Cos I'm not very good at the net smacking.
  10. They're amazing. Have y'all seen these photos? http://www.bloodydecks.com/forums/baja- ... rfish.html It's of a pair washing up on some rocks. No wonder sailors used to think they were monsters.
  11. How about TIMMMMMMMYYY!!!! the turtle
  12. Cool, I went there on Fri. Was cool watching the giraffes eat a giant ice cube full of fruit. I think I like the sun bears & fruit bats best there.
  13. Have you tried Cat Protection League? http://www.cpl-wellington.org.nz/adopt.htm I imagine they'll have similar prices to the SPCA though. I totally agree with Aquilam though. And the others that have pointed out $160 is a great price.
  14. Handling them could be counter-productive? Everytime they see you they'll think "Crap, I don't wanna be picked up" and leap into the water. I'm not a huge reptile expert but I do know they're not like a cat & probably don't want cuddles. Oh and my example of that is the ones at Southern Encounter are never handled and have a constant stream of people looking at them & they always sit up basking, unafraid.
  15. Make sure he's 100% healthy? I've noticed Donna's turtles are really calm and relaxed and usually just sit and chill out. Once the turtle knows he's got nothing to be afraid of and is really happy maybe he'll be more chilled. I'm sure you already look after them fantastically, but maybe there's a little something missing? I don't know.
  16. Psssst it's Monday chat night!
  17. Wow, he really looks so beautiful & shiny in the second picture. Do you use Facebook? I've been making a turtle page for DonnaM, but would love if you could post these before & after shots in the fan photos. They look great. http://www.facebook.com/home.php#!/pages/Turtle-Rescue-and-Rehoming/106834146021300?ref=ts is the link. If you don't have an account I might have to steal the photos if that's ok.
  18. http://www.facebook.com/pages/Turtle-Rescue-and-Rehoming/106834146021300?v=info#!/pages/Turtle-Rescue-and-Rehoming/106834146021300?v=wall Made a Facebook fansite for Donna & hopefully us Totally Tanked crew will have a webpage coming up soon... Can someone help me with ideas for the easiest/least complicated/cheapest way of doing some sort of donation button? She currently uses a personal cheque account or takes cash. But she's had interest from an overseas donor, so I was thinking along the lines of Paypal. But I'm too tired to concentrate on it right now, so pm me or post with suggestions please
  19. I almost did it but gave up and just bought a new tank (partly cos old one had scratched glass anyway) But I was taught how to do the silicone bit & its not so hard
  20. Stop judging him! He's got scars!
