may be the wood was not matured .and was partially living still .and if not dead it will rot .did it sink well ?

cherry babs are very mellow and peaceful keeping them selves to them selves in my opinion . i personally have had no probs with them . i used builders sand for substrate also (washed again and again !) there is someone on t.m selling bamboo funiture for tanks .

a group of cherry barbs would look good also
