    CO2

The tank I want to use it on is my 450 litre planted discus tank. For this reason and the fact that I am technologically challenged I need one that will work and is easy to put together hence my question. I gather that to buy a pressurised system is expensive but could a DIY system provide what is needed in a tank this size?
  2. I do as firenzenz does - same depot just before 7pm. Its a good time to go as the motorway or great south road is clear by then, before 6pm and theres too much traffic.
  3. Great news to hear and hopefully all will be good from now on. We had a really nice day with family and their respective partners etc. It was pretty hot up here but Christmas lunch consisted of the traditional turkey with new potatoes and a great range of salads instead of the roast vegetables that I remember having as a child many many years ago. Today my son & his partner departed for Whangamata, my daughter heads to Papamoa on Monday to meet up with her boyfriend and my niece departs on New Years eve heading to Uganda with the Christian Tear Fund to help build a school over there so it will be a while until we are all together again.
  4. I went there as well today. Have you tried Mt Roskill, the last time I was in they had one pair left and they were pretty hard to locate in the tank.

    CO2

What I would like to know is exactly what one needs to purchase when they wish to set up a CO2 injection into their tanks. I am forever seeing bits and pieces advertised, that are used to make this up, but I have no idea what is actually needed.
  6. I will be interested in the new ones to see what happens. The two I purchased today appeared to be less clearly marked than the others. There were ones in the tank with the distinct markings but I went for the others hoping I might get a different sex so heres hoping. I will try and get pics of them all eventually including the ones I got off you but as you know they are very good at hiding.

  8. I don't know anything about tiger barbs but, if as Morc says, they do require higher oxygen levels then warmer weather will most likely be increasing the temperature of your tank, which in turn will decrease the level of oxygen in the water. I dose flourish excel in my tank with no problems but I also run an airline 24/7. Val melts with the use of this product, and because plants increase the oxygen levels in the tank, less plants will mean less oxygen. To get rid of bearded algae you need to dose daily. Of the fish in your tank the bristlenose will most likely be the best indicator if your oxygen levels are decreasing as they will surface more often and with a major loss of oxygen in the water they will sit at the top with the tips of their noses out.

    Gold spot

Thanks for the act of faith but in fact I really have no idea what I'm looking at when I look at plecs/panaques. I know what I like the look of and I know it always has the big $'s.

    Gold spot

Can someone please tell me if this auction 261563453 is in fact a Gold Spot. Thanks
  11. Spirulina was the only thing I could think of as well as it has been mentioned on this site in the past as causing discolouration of yellows.
  12. I think the A position as the other side looks like it may get too much direct light on it and if you don't have it facing that way you won't see whats in it anyways. I think a planted tank would look nicer than one with fish in it but given that I like plenty of room on my sink top I most probably wouldn't put one in there at all. By the way the bathroom looks very very nice.
  13. I have now added 2 spotted bn as well I wanted more but there were no more in the shop
  14. A stab in the dark but it is possible that the new fish you added were carrying something that has passed onto your existing fish. Some guppy imports do carry disease which most of them have become immune to but when you add them to a tank with guppies not previously exposed these ones die off. I would have expected however that they would have shown some signs before dying. Bettas are pretty resistant as well.
  15. Whats this P44 and is it yours? Did you get your new plecs off Mr Plec? Are they going in a species only tank? I was thinking of putting my 3 Chocolate Zebras in a tank by themselves.
  16. From the commercial section - We are pleased to announce that we have some very rare and unusual fish out very soon at both our branches. Sourced from a very reputable importer/exporter of aquarium fish from Germany. Some of these fish have not been imported for many years and may not be again for just as long.
  17. Hi Mr Plec whats your opinion on the ones I purchased?
  18. thanks for answering all my questions - I finally pulled my head away from bettas to look at other fish. theres a 'goldy' at hff but it looks nothing like P44's. Its more like a cross between a gba in colouring and one of kiwiplymouths goldys. This is my problem - everytime I see a plec or panaque I like the look of I never know if its what it is labelled as.
  19. Maybe thats what they were called - might have to go back tomorrow and have another look.
  20. Okay so if a plec is called a goldy then it could be any of those listed?
  21. whats this one called and also where do you get your cane from? Do you keep all yours in the same tank or how many to each tank and how big are the tanks? Sorry for all the questions.
