  1. I couldn't find anything about them on the internet. I can't work out why they are called bn at all as they certainly don't resemble a bn.

    Which killie?

    They are very very nice!

    Scarlet pleco

Try sending a pm to Babyruby as I think she had a scarlet plec for sale on here at the end of last year, that she had purchased from HFF.
  4. Are you looking at keeping only a 3ft tank or are you intending to have multiple tanks as this is revelent to what type of fish you breed?
  5. you mean like the pipes. One end needs to be closed in doesn't it so its pretty much a snug fit?
  6. Yep, I know. Its absolutely ridiculous. Up here its a bit like all the winter clothes coming into the shops and its been sooooo hot.
  7. got the wood, what would be good for round caves? Have just added an airline and the water movement is not too bad.
  8. Barbs are probably better kept with their own kind as they tend to nip other fish's fins and tails. Cherry barbs are nice and bright and are around in the shops. All barbs do well in groups.
  9. Yep, everyone to their own The pics not that great butI really really like them. I definitely do not do any of the syndonitis (sp?) and the jury is still out about whiptails. There was a mighty scrap amongst the longfins going on at the shop before I bought some of them. Two of them wanted the space between two plastic plants. I do hope that the peckoltia is a female and that there is at least one male. They are only about 6cm I would think so wouldn't expect them to be breeding size yet (or am I wrong). ATM they are sharing with the spotted bn, two standard bn and the longfin. I am going to clear up two tanks shortly and then split them and also set up a tank for my 3 chocolate zebras.
  10. Do I count - I'm ex Timaru (2x) lol! and ex Blenheim and ex Christchurch. Where in Timaru are you?
  11. Possibly as they mature they will lose them, and only show them at times of stress. I find that once my females have been in a tank with a mature male their colour darkens and they are less likely to show these lines.
  12. Some always do to a certain extent but males never do - how old are they? Females only will drop their colour at times of stress.
  13. I purchased 4 longfin bn this morning to add to my tank. Tried for 2 pair and one appears a lot different to the others so heres hoping. Hope you like the pics one of the longfin and bn sharing a log my other plecs were being more photogenic this morning so heres some of the pretty peckoltia from the last shipment and a couple of my spotted bn Hope you like them, I sure do
  14. I asked him that question yesterday but not via the forum I'll wait for Phoenix to post his answer
  15. i'm going though that atm, does it just disappear? I hope so cos I am about to double the lighting on the tank
  16. and wait for it - it will arrive on a day that you are at work for sure.
  17. I've currently got the loan of a T5HO double light fitting and thats been running on the tank for about 3 weeks with about 5 days turned off in the middle of this time (my holiday lol) and in about another week I will be running 2 T5HO double fittings on the tank permanently. The lighting is starting to definitely improve the growth rate of my plants and the red ones are finally becoming redder. I don't mind the big swords and a couple will shelter the discus from the high lighting which will keep them happy. Last year I just cut the new shoots off and planted some and gave the others away to forum members. My other big sword is one of these ones so will most likely do the same this year.
  18. Thanks guys. I've seen the other one that looks like red pine and it is very similar although not the same. Animates has both in the tank side by side and you can see the difference. Hey Phoenix - the sword you sent me has thrown out a shoot thats about 20cm long - grown that much in about 3 days! It looks the same as the other big sword I have in my plant which has a shoot at just over 60cm atm.
  19. whoops - thought you was being serious lol
  20. get some glasses Sam - even I can see him without mine on and I can't see a lot. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder but he doesn't look too bad to me and Phoenix knows that these aren't my thing
  21. Heres a couple of shots of it. The discus kept wanting to be in the pics lol also any ideas as to what the pine is - is it red pine?
  22. Yep I know google is but all the pics look the same on the auction site and I wanted something similar to the one I have (don't know which it is though).
  23. Is Indian fern, Water fern, Water Sprite, Water Wisteria all the same plant with a different name? Have been looking on tm and all of them look like the plant I have.
  24. trumpet snails are pretty easy to keep under control though - they just love shrimp pellets. I drop a few in a group in my tank, wait half an hour and net the snails out en masse as they cover the pellets trying to eat them.
  25. Any discus with pigeon in it will 'pepper' to varying degrees - more so if there is a black background in the tank. This is because they try to camouflage themselves against the dark background. I have one like yours and it (sex unknown) has peppering along the center line of its face and at the edges of its fins and tail - it sort of outlines his body in the tank. He's beautiful!! I have another one with pigeon in it and he (confirmed male) is heavily speckled all over.
