Today I received an email from Horizons Regional Council. It appears that they are also now concerned and thanked me for the heads up. A couple of people are now looking into it to make sure that the completed works will comply to the appropriate consent conditions. Areas of concern are (quoted from email from Council) An Environmental Compliance Officer has been sent to view the site and look into it further. I am so glad I raised my concerns with them now. Hopefully things can be done to fix it. It will never be the same but hopefully it can be made more fish friendly

PH is reading 6 (thats as low as my testkit goes) I threw in a couple of alder cones as well. Lets see what happens with the sexes

Clear as mud :lol: I might just have to experiment. I am adding a few Alder cones today to see what that does. I am not sure of the PH as I have not bothered to test it yet but will see what its like before adding any cones. The water I use is rain water. The fish are obviously happy.

OK, Next thing is Temperature Firefish, do you remember what tem they were at for your last spawning? That produced all males I believe warmer = males Cooler = females Anyone want to argue?

Nice tank. What fish other than the fighter is in there? You could grow some nice emersed plants in there.

All hatched and wriggling in a pile at the back of the cave. Both Mum and Dad are staying in the tank with them ( they have successfully raised fry before). I have just added a small bunch of Xmas moss for the fry to hide in when bigger and to act as a feeding source. ( Moss usually is full of micro organisms that fry like) Filtration is a spongee so fry will be safe. Need to go and make sure my microworm culture is still going strong. I havent checked it for a few weeks.

I think this is funny as I have an old master Pet one here which I have had for about 4 years. (I kid you not) and it is still going strong. I am def not saying they are a good heater but it is one I bought a long time ago when I had no other option at the time and it is used on one of my small planted tanks. I am not sure about the temp, whether it is accurate or not, as it is in my fish room and I dont have a thermometer in the tank. I wouldnt buy another but I thought I would just mention it. :lol: I have had a lot of success with Aqua One heaters.

I have not checked them today. The lights dont come on for a few more hours so will have to wait and see. She has laid them in a special cave I have made for the apistos. They seen to like them.

Yeah they have them all, but we were looking to see if we could save a bit of money and buy some secondhand ones.

Dont really have much choice. Unless someone out there has some and they are willing to try add new blood to my plight its an uphill battle. This is the only female I have found that is still around.
