Bummer. That stuff sux. I got rid of my infestation as soon as I started double dosing with Excel. It will take a while but I found that after a few weeks of treating it vanished and has not come back. Good luck with treating it. I feel you pain.

Extra vitamins

The deeper the substrate the deeper the plants will send roots down. If you decide to pull up the plants it will leave you with a huge mess. I have about an inch of Aquatic mix with about 1-2 inches of sand on top. HTH

P44, can I suggest you go easy on the saturation in Post production. It tends gives the plants an unnatural appearence. Otherwise awesome photos, keep em coming. Reminder that we need some good images of Java Moss and Java fern.

Ok, so I see this is in the Off topic area so I am now assuming you mean your household supply. Gallons of water to disinfect (equivalent shown in brackets) Amount of household bleach (5%) to add * 1 gal. (4.5 litres) 2 drops (0.18 mL) 2 1/5 gal. (10 litres) 5 drops (0.4 mL) 5 gal. (23 litres) 11 drops (0.9 mL) 10 gal. (45 litres) 22 drops (1.8 mL) 22 gal. (100 litres) 3/4 teaspoon (4 mL) 45 gal. (205 litres) 1 1/2 teaspoons (8 mL) 50 gal. (230 litres) 1 3/4 teaspoons (9 mL) 100 gal. (450 litres) 3 1/2 teaspoons (18 mL) 220 gal. (1000 litres) 8 teaspoons (40 mL) 500 gal. (2200 litres) 6 tablespoons (90 mL) 1000 gal. (4550 litres) 6 1/2 ounces or 12 tablespoons (180 mL) *Adding household (5%) bleach at these amounts will produce water with about 2 parts per million of chlorine in it (about 0.0002 percent). http://www.healthlinkbc.ca/healthfiles/hfile49b.stm Just make sure its pure bleach without added soaps and scents

Why do you want to treat your tank water? Most of us want to rid our water of chlorine not add it
-
agreed. So long as the nutrient dont enter water column yoi should be fine. What plants are you intending on growing?
-
Yes flowers and emersed growth is good. Wanting as much info on plants so we can make the database very helpful for users to ID plants. A lot of plants are sold in emersed state. Great pics there neon. Keep'em coming Yes, I will put your name. Full or just first?
-
Also, when you post photos here for use in database please advise what you want the photos credited as, Forum Name or Real Name. If forum name say so in post with images but if real name please PM me your name. Thanks PS, photos that are on the new database are not viewable to anyone yet so just post them up and we will sort through them. Some on the current plant page now have images but as we said, the more the better. We also want images of plants you have that are not on the current list also. IE H micranth.... currently does not exist but does on the new database. This will become a handy resource for members to identify the plants they have and be able to see what they look like in different forms, ie submersed vs emersed. Please thanks

Already on it

Joe, the FNZAS is not just about keeping fish in tanks. Many members have ponds or enjoy growing aquatic and bog plants. ( I know I do ) Acorus is commonly used in the hobby. If we were just to remove all the plants that are not true aquatic plants then what good would that be to anyone who has been sold some and wants to know what they have. The FNZAS caters for a large group of interests. Now, do you have any photos for me?

http://badmanstropicalfish.com/biotope/biotope6.html http://www.aqua-fish.net/show.php?h=newguineariver Some basic reading. Amazing how they mention C. wendtii. It comes from Sri Lanka Indian fern and Java moss would be a start. Then some Val. What sort of biotope are you wanting? River, or blackwater pool ?
-
Thanks Neon, If you dont want to upload them to a site just email them to me. Click email icon at bottom of my posts Same goes with anyone else. If you have pics you dont want to muck around with uploading to photobucket etc, Need some pics of Hygro Polyperma please, submersed. Also Cabomba, various lotus pics, Acorus, Indian Ferns, thats just naming a few Have a look here http://www.fnzas.org.nz/index.php?PG=plant If there is only a drawing we may need an image. We have some but the more the better. I am working slowly on the crypt side of things but if you have some good pics of crypts then let me know. Ideally close ups so you can see the detail of the plants, Not whole tank shots unless the whole tank is the one plant in question. c. balansae- Need a nice pic of this, mine is not the nicest at the moment.

Hi people. Does anyone have any images of Bacopa submersed? We have some emersed but want some as comparison. Also please post you images here if you have good clear images of any plants. Its not guaranteed that it will be used but the more to choose from the better Also, Needed id a good clear image of Java Moss. Close up and normal shots please
-
I agree Neon on this pic But this pic looks normal for wendtii (minus the bit of BBA on the right) The next photo looks like different stuff, Prob the utricularia which I think is mixed in there. The pic of Java fern is just the root hairs. No need to worry there.
-
What P44 was referring to ( correct me P44 if I am wrong) is the third pic? Some Crypts, especially wendtii varieties will grow roots that grow hairs above the gravel. It looks like this is what is in your pics. Are the stringy bits brown? If they are green or gray they more likely to be algae (P44 is thinking STAGHORN, LOL) If it is brown and attached to the crypt then it is a sign the crypt needs more root ferts. It is seeking nutrients from water column. If its staghorn then do not use Hydrogen peroxide. P44 will tell you why  The crypts will have melted initially after removal of the Indian Fern as A) The fern was sucking up excess nutrients creating a balance B) The removal of Ferns meant a sudden increase of light, Crypts dont do changes very well. Resist touching them and they will grow back just as healthy.

Pearl Weed - Hemianthus micranthemoides

Hydrocotyle verticillata. Read the article in the next Aquarium World Mag (not Feb, the next) Here is an ambulia one. Was taking some pics of Glosso flowers but camera battery died on me. Will have to wait till I get another chance.
-
Thanks, I has taken a while to get it to a photographable state. The plants grow far slower so training them and getting them to bush out takes a bit longer. I will try update as it grows out a bit more. I think it needs some colour but that will be hard in a low light tank. I forgot to add Xmas Moss to the plant list. Hiding behind the Lotus.

Neat photos Matt. Looks like your getting the hang of that camera.

Live news stream from 7 news as they travel to the main places to investigate. http://au.tv.yahoo.com/sunrise/video/-/watch/23310266/ They have a reporter streaming live via Skype as he tried to get to Tully where the eye first hit land. Coming up against flooding and downed trees and buildings etc. I have been watching since first light and I watched until it hit last night and power went out to most. Been a bit of an eye opener or my first day of my holiday.

Cyclones will always downgrade when they hit land. They are fed by warm moist air which means when the cyclone hits land the fuel starts to run out and it gets smaller. Live footage is now showing flattened Banana plantations. Expect prices of Nanas to go up in the next 12 months as the supply will be short. As the sun is coming up more damage is being shown.
