when i brought my tank i messed around with my combination of carbon/noodles in my trickle filter and in the end i just loaded my trays up with noodles and got rid of the carbon, so i have about 4 tubs of noodles with filter wool below and above them in my filter and they seem to be doing the job fine.

if it is an aquaone tank have a look at this http://www.aquaone.co.uk/documents/850980lowres30px.pdf it is the technical specs showing you how to set up an ar850 tank i have an aquaone ar850 and have set mine up as follow's: in the bottom of my filter trays i have filter wool, filled up just below the top of the tray with noodles then more filter wool so there is no gap between the spraybar and filter wool which equals no trickling sound.

Hi i have finally got sum plants that have got to the surface of my tank. I was wondering how i should go about pruning them. Do i just cut it off at what lenght i want it to be then replant the cutting? Is there a specific way to pruning plants? Any help would be great.

hi i have got this plant in my tank thats looks normal enough. but at night the leaves on the top 1/2 of the plant seem to be shooting towards the top of the tank, like they are getting pulled upwards. the leaves on the bottom 1/2 are all black round the edges but the top 1/2 are all green. anyone got the answer. thanks

okay so i got it all setup and it seems to be working okay. what i was wondering was the bubbles seem to travel up the ladder thing then just float to the top and pop. does that sound right?

cool sounds easy, i've been doing a search and found a thread on injecting co2 via a soda stream machine. Basically just prepare the bottle as if you are making yourself a drink but only give it 2 or 3 squirts and then tip it in ya tank so i might see how the kit goes and then try the soda stream idea and see what the outcome is.

to anyone who has a planted tank, do you use activated carbon? the reason i am asking is it seems to be getting costly having to change it all the time, at the end of the day do i need activated carbon or should i just chuck in sum more noodles. also i have noticed my noodles are getting a dirty sludge covering them, do i need to clean them or is it all good to just forget about them. thanks

no just dont have any slack in it, i don't fill mine right to the top (find there aint enough water movement if i do) so there is a good 5mm gap between the water and base of filter. plus i have a loop in the cord so if water does run down it, it wont get to the plug.

i had one setup in my cabinet and it done nothing, must be to cold in the cabinet for the yeast, how is yours setup with temp etc. pics?

ok so i took that check valve out, had sum bubbles for a while but has since stopped, would this be because the yeast solution is cold, i was thinking of putting it in a bucket of water with a spare heater i have.

thought i would start a progress thread on my recent attempt at diy co2. i have mixed 2cups suger 1 1/2 teaspoon of yeast and topped up with hot water and attached an check valve between second bottle and airstone in my water outlet flow. the lfs has ordered me 2 6700k 30in bulbs and i replaced the 24in bulb with an 8000k bulb. i have sum questions how long does it take for it to start bubbling? is it ok to have the airstone in the waterflow outlet just below the water surface?

have just setup my diy yeast mix (will start my own thread with progress pics etc) and have a question, is it worth putting a co2 diffuser on the end of it or just and airstone, how long before bubbles start coming out (lol im very impatient) thanks

how do you tell the difference between these bulbs, i have an aqua one ar 850 tank but dont no how to tell if the bulbs i have are t5 or t8. thanks

hi i am looking at setting up a small saltwater tank and was wanting your advice on maintainence, etc on keeping 2 or 3 fish. any basic info on keeping saltwater fish, what is needed etc to keep fish etc would be much appreciated, this is the tank i was thinking of using. is it too small for say 3 fish? http://www.trademe.co.nz/Home-living/Pe ... 411941.htm
