hi there i hope everyone had a merry xmas. anyway what i was wanting to no was is there such a thing as filtering your water too much. i am not happy with my current in hood filter and was wanting to get more filtration going. does anyone have any suggestions on another filter i could use as a secondary aswell as my filterhood. thanks

ok i might try the noodles in all tray, i have a planted tank and have the lights on a timer for 12hrs a day and the tank has no direct sunlight. will keep doing water changes and hopefully see if it clears. thanks

i set up an ar-850 and all is good apart from the dam water being green, could this be from the piece of driftwood i have in there. Also there seems to be alot of fine particals floating through the water so do i need more filter wool etc to filter these particals out. The way i have my filter set is one box has fine white filter wool on bottom and coarse filter wool on top with noodles in between, the other box is the same but it has a bag of carbon pellets instead of noodles. how do you have your filters set up??

ok i will look at replacing the bulbs i got it wrong somehow aswell, the blue one is 15000k. so basically i just need the right lights i dont need to add anything to the water like flourish excell etc.

20-25watts the plants & leaves are under the water.

its an aqua one ar 850 155lter so it has three different light bulbs, 1x bluey coloured bulb 15000k 1x 10000k 1x i dunno the rating, cant be bothered pulling the light to bits.

take care of your planted tanks? i seem to always have my plants dying. the leaves go black and the plants start falling apart. what should i be adding to the water to make the plants grow because i dont want to be buying plants every couple of months. thanks

i have u/g filters in my old tank so i cant add them to my new tank, i added 2 neons the day after i set up my new tank and they are still alive so i think i will dump the other 10 in on saturday and hope for the best. i'll just chuck as much of my water (about 80lts) from old tank into the new one when i do it.

so the best way to do it would be to take 50% water out of new tank and top it up with the water out of my old tank and then chuck the fish in and it will be all sweet yeah?

is the spring water from the speights brewery ok to use for a water change?

i brought and set a new tank up on sunday (aqua one ar-850) i tested the water on monday to see what the deal was and i got the following results ammonia 0 nitrite 0 nitrate 20 ph level 7.8 i no the ph is a bit high but the rest say the tank is ok. your thoughts.

well thought i would treat myself and buy a new tank in the weekend, i got an aquq one ar-850 with stand, filters in the hood etc, have just put gravel and plants in, water is very cloudy but apart from that everything is going well.

one of my catfish has completely black eyes aswell, dont worry bout it if the fish seems fine.

i was just thinking are there any plants you can buy from the plant shop that would survive in a fishtank? also i want to get rid of my u/g filter and replace with internal/external, any recommendations?

i was going to screw it to the underside of my lid but it aint quite deep enough, im going to modify my lid, the bulbs say 18000k ( i got the wrong ones didn't i)

it is a twin flro fitting from a light shop, i have glass inside my lid but the fitting and bulbs are just to close so i might get another lid made 50mm higher just so i got that 50mm gap between the bulbs and glass.

ok finally got my light but how close can the bulbs be to the water? i think i might have to make a new lid because at the moment i only have about a 60mm clearence and if i put the glass back in the lid the bulbs will be like 10mm away from the glass. any suggestions?

thats cool, how do you tell the difference between male and female bcos i have two and they are always really close.

my mollies arent getting aong the black one keeps chasing the white one and attacking it, now the white one just hides in the corner to scared to move poor bugger
