  1. Thanks! Any feeding recommendations? I currently feed the adults trout pellets and tropical flake. I do have one culture of microworms, so will double that to take some in to work.
  2. I have got three new additions - Peppered Cory eggs Kribensis fry ( free-swimming) and in the work tank today I noticed angel fish fry! :bounce: :bounce: Just before work broke up last year I saw the angels lip-locking, but wasn't sure if they were a pair or males fighting. They are in with lots of tetras (black widow, neon and glowlight) and cories. As it is their first lot, I'm keen for them to do as much as possible. The fry are at the wriggler stage, where they are all crowded together not free swimming. Does anyone have any advice or recommendations???
  3. Petone and Korokoro are on artesian supply (no chlorine) but I'm sure it doesn't extend to all Lower Hutt.
  4. And welcome from Upper Hutt! Sounds like you've got a good mix of fish.
  5. :bounce: :bounce: Five days after shifting my six cories to their new tank, there are eggs all over the glass! The only other occupants in the 3-ft tank are ten harlequins (and ramshorn snails!) I only noticed the cory spawning today, but they have been going mad, with little batches (three-ten eggs) on three sides, up and down, on the filter and driftwood... about 50 all up. Yay I love these fish!
  6. Thanks to all - especially Paul. 'll visit the Goods Shed on Monday, when I'm back at work in Naenae! I have just shifted my peppered cories into a new 3ft planted tank but may set up a breeding tank for them later on.
  7. Can anyone tell me if Daltons Propagating Sand is too sharp or rough for the cory's barbels? and what is the ideal substrate for them? - I have peppered corys.
  8. Hey there, how is the tank now? What fish did you get and are they thriving? I'm thinking of doing a similar set-up for my new 3ft tank, with Apistos or rams, otos and harlequins (I have ten of these and love them).
  9.   Your stream is far too healthy to be natural!
  10. I have a 3' 150l tank, planted, with driftwood and rocks. 1 pair kribs 5 rummy-nose tetras 6 cardinals 1 bristlenose 1 moonlight gourami. Another 2' (90l) planted tank with 10 harlequins 1 bristlenose 6 peppered corys. These will be shifted into a new 3' tank soon. (yay for Peanuts upgrading hers!) The bristlenose may go into the other tank. At work I have a 3' 180l tank with 2 angels 10 black widow tetras 6 glowlight tetras 12 neons 7 corys (4 bronze and 3 albino) I think this one is overstocked.

    400ltr pond

Wow, that looks great! What are the plants with the long strappy leaves? Looks like val. My raised bed pond doesn't look as good - it is 2m sq, and no filter, but the wcmms have bred in it, so it isn't all bad!
  12. I just bought a Jebo 819 from Hutt Pets, for $130. Sale price is $160, but got KMAC club member's 10% discount then traded 3 fish... The Jebo 815 is $129.
  13. thanks for that! I think it is behavioural rather than water change, as only one of the laoches is affected, and the water changes are regular - weekly 20-25%. Funny, in the books and sites I read up before getting the loach, I found that yoyos could be kept singularly. Now I find it prefers groups! So I should maybe introduce another loach?
  14. My two loaches used to play and get on ok. Now one is very dominant and the other is hiding all the time. He/she has gone pale and is only half the size - well the other one is looking very fat and I'm missing a rummynose tetra  The tank is a wide and deep 3', (164 l) with a krib pair, some bns, both cardinal and rummynose tetras and a moonlight gourami. I'm a bit worried by both behaviours - the missing fish and the pale loach. What do you think I should do?
  15. The best thing about collecting your own driftwood is choosing exactly the right shape & size for what you want to achieve! I've found awesome pieces from both river and beach - both get boiled if they fit in the big jam pan, or just washed outside if they are too big. No problems yet. Like Caryl, I don't want to pay my fish money for wood I can find.

    Hi everyone

Hi Emily, Welcome! I have a small school of harlequins (10) that I keep in a wide two foot tank. (they will soon get a 3 foot one, yay!) Then I'll get more of them... I've had them only a few months, but they are really great fish. However, I did have a few die soon after getting them, so I wouldn't add them first, wait until your tank is mature. I think I hurried the introductions a bit. Mine are currently in with a pair of kribensis and a male betta (Siamese fighter) with no trouble! Cheers, Hellen
  17. Thanks. They definitely are wcmms. Yay. Will there be enough food in the pond naturally or should I supplement? It has mosquito larvae as well as plants with a small amount of algae.
  18. I found my first new arrivals in the pond today! I'm reasonably sure they are baby white clouds :bounce: :bounce: The pond (2 x 2m) has only white clouds in it - I started with 12, but not sure if they all survived the initial transition and subsequent rain. However, as I was admiring my first waterlily bloom I noticed these tiny things that moved differently to the mossie larvae that are also there... they are black from the top, but have a bulbous head area. Too small (3-5 mm?) to notice eyes or colour. Yay! it's so exciting!! :bounce: :bounce: :bounce:
  19. Bad Luck! I'm so sorry to hear of your loss. I got my neighbour to feed, and had little pill bottles with each day's food in, and labelled them for each day/tank. Mind you, given that fish can go ages without any food, seems like "overkill" doesn't it? (literally!)
  20. yeah, I really like that site! I wish it listed yoyo loaches though... I think that some fishes will get on even if as a species they are not s'posed to, and vice versa. But it's not worth risking if there is an alternative. Like getting another tank?
  21. I hope that you give them a break sometimes?! No-one should have to breed constantly!
  22. Great photos! I really like the khuli in the parsley! Makes my indian fern look very dull.
  23. Hi, I like your list! I think it is a few too many for a 100l tank. Add the platy first, as they are much hardier than the cardinals. Personally, I would drop the dwarf gourami, and replace them with another two panda corys - these like to be in groups of at least four. Good luck!
  24. Hiya, yep! We'll be meeting on the second Thursday of every month. 7.30pm at the Maidstone Centre, 24 Goodshed Rd, Upper Hutt. This month, oct 12th, subject is making a brine shrimp hatchery.
  25. Hi, I also recommend this site: http://www.timstropicals.com/Compatibil ... Search.asp There is more info and easy to use. Good luck!
