  1. Wow! Congrats on the engagement! :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: And the baby fishies too.... See you at the meeting. Cheers, Hellen
  2. Cool, thanks Tanksman. Yep, it is 47cm, 18.5". (Only 164L, probable volume is 148L.) Mystic recommended that filter as being a good starter one. Cheers.
  3. Hi Sharn, the filter came with two black sponges, so they are all I have. Good news though. I got impatient, and took the filter apart and reassembled it, and now it seems to be clearing! :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: So I can finally see where the female platy is hiding. She has been secretive for a day and definitely looks like she's changed shape...
  4. Yeah, try it! I will await the result, so I can do it too! Once I get some pumice, that is...
  5. Pumice is rhyolite, and is silica based. Like sand. I would say it is fine to use in a tank. But this is from a geology view, rather than an experienced fish-keepng one!
  6. Hi, thanks for your reply. That's what I thought, but it has been 24 hours with no apparent difference.
  7. Hi, I have cleaned my filter and I'm not sure it is in the right order, cos there are lots of floaty things whirling round in the current! My tank is 3 ft (36"long x 15" high x 47" deep), and with propagating sand and rocks and gravel, well planted. The filter is a Aqua One 103F Maxi Internal. The current is quite strong, but there are too many tiny bits floating for my liking. From what I can see, the filter is sucking them in, but not strongly. The tank has been going without problems for three months, and has got 3 kribs, 2 bristlenose, 4 platys, 2 loaches and 10 harlequins. The last 3 of the harlequins were added last week. Can anyone help with this or tell me how the filter should be (I did try to get them all back properly, it fits , but maybe something could be round the wrong way?  Cheers!
  8. Hi Souxsi, welcome! what part of Arizona are you from? I had a fantastic time touring there last Jan/Feb - and yeah reptiles are awesome! Whenever I'm out of Nz I go to the petshops and see/handle the snakes - just because I can... Didn't like the big spiders though... Cheers, Foxglove

    dolomite

Hi Dave, the only place that has naturally occuring dolomite in New Zealand is Mt Burnett in Nelson/ Golden Bay area. So unless you visit Welly harbour you will have to find a landscaping place that sells it. Dolomite is a form of limestone (calcium magnesium carbonate). Other forms of limestone (minus the magnesium) will be okay and there are limestone quarries in the north island. Cheers, Foxglove
