  1. man, you don't ask for much. i particularly like this part  i shall make it work
  2. i tell you what, give me the size of the tank & the overall size of teh cab & i will draw one up tomorrow morning & do a cutting list.
  3. no, you don't want the tank overhanging. what size is it? the top plus the thickness of the back 16/18 is the depth so it has an overall depth of 296/298mm.
  4. make the top & ends the same depth (280mm) & fix the back overlay. you can keep the base the same or 20mm deeper (300mm) to create a little "foot" under the doors that will stick out 2mm proud of the door faces. the doors can be fitted overlay onto the ends. it's not how i would make it but it is keeping the cutting list simpler this way.
  5. your deductions for the top & bottom need to be the thickness of the MDF, either 16 or 18 rather than 20 for the front edges to line up & the gaps between the doors & carcass to be even. also take into account the thickness of the saw blade, you have 8 cuts (including trimming the first edge) at 5mm each cut which equals 40mm of material that will turn into dust.
  6. you will need it so maybe cut out an arrch or leave just a strip at the front. extend the ends back so it looks mint when you paint it
  7. i don't believe solid timber would be of any benefit for a stand of this size. timber, with its grain can be more of a hinderance than a help in this scale.
  8. man that sucks, it would put me off having plants i think. I have had no nasty algae issues since i changed to plant destroying africans, maybe there is a common ground there.
  9. good quality hinges will be easily adjusted with overlay doors. with inset doors you will have an issue if the cab gets out of square
  10. extend the end panels back so the back panel goes in between them. i would put a central support panel if i was you or the top panel may/will sag putting stress on the tank.
  11. the 2nd to last plan has "inset" doors, the last has "overlay" doors. Personally i would go with overlay as i think it looks better front on & with inset doors any irregularities in the cabinet, it not being square will stick out like the proverbial. the only difference when it comes to fitting the doors is the way it's hinged, the hinge can be the same but using a thicker mount will inset the door or you can use inset hinges with a standard 0 or 1.2 mount depending on which hardware brand you use. if you get good brand hinges they will be adjustable in every direction which means in time you have more adjustment to make the doors line up if the cabinet moves a little. i would reccomend a verticle support in the front to stop the top sagging onto the top of the doors, ideally a full panel like the ends. oh & extend the end panels to cover the back panels, it will look alot tidier from end on.
  12. hmm, the spca might have something to say about you battery farming lizards  man those are cool, they are so on my list of "Things to have in the future"
  13. there is no issue with using MDF tables to support larger tanks as long as they are constructed properly allowing the weight to be transferred from panel to panel down to the floor. if you put them together in a way that it relies on screws supporting the weight then you will have an issue. screws should only be used to hold the panels together rather than supporting anything. any unsealed MDF will go fluffy over time whether water is spilt or not, particularly on the edges.
  14. my dad bought a navman my55?? which has the bluetooth option. I have used it & it works very well. i believe they give live traffic updates to.
  15. they are cheaper & happy to do the job they are promoting. I use them over NZC.
  16. i suppose this isn't much different to a fish being eaten by a bird, they swallow them alive don't they?
  17. well it's great you did try to help in this situation & now you may just need to be happy with your effort as no one else seems to want to know.
  18. this has never happened before that i know of.
  19. back to the question initially raised, eat eat eat! i split them down the middle long ways, take out the guts etc. Add garlic butter & put them open side down on the bbq.
  20. nah we haven't, we are saying its a better option to fix the problem rather than just telling everyone there is one & avoid it.
  21. what about the LFS's that sell on TM? Trademe is a advertising site not a governing body.
  22. i agree totally, a girl i used to flat with was a dive instructor. I really liked the times when she was taking students into the ocean, crays, packies & scallops were on the menu regularly.
  23. have you discussed it with the person in question or offered any advice to them before raising this issue?
  24. is that a yawn or stretching for an attempt to eat something large than normal?
  25. i haven't owned one but the specs state it will suit a tank that size & eheim are very good. I don't think you could go wrong with that.
