when i use to do shift work we were doing 12 hour shifts starting at 4 am, the first week was hard but after that i adjusted to it then it was easy.

who did you give them to? maybe they have thousands now. you could feed them to your loaches again

i would think that they could also be like other fish, the dominant male has his way & the sub-dominant must keep to himself or man up for the number one spot.

i also liked the black back ground when i had coloured fish, now i have black ones not so ideal. All i see some times is a bright orange flash dart across the tank sometimes followed by a bright yellow with a blueish tinge :lol:

it is best to get cabinet door hinges as they are adjustable & you make the overall appearance look alot better by aligning them up. if you take your doors to a kitchen maker it will take less than 10 mins to bore them & fit hinges, i use to do it occasionally when i was at the kitchen place. just ask them to be bored 100mm down.

well it's good it works either way. loosing fish really sucks.

when i start new tanks for fry i have used existing substrate & added fry the following day, i have done it this way & never had any losses from it. I do regular water changes, 10% daily or every second day for the first week or so & it has worked well.

i think there is alot more beneficial bacteria in your substrate rather than in the filter. numerious times i have added a "new" canister to an existing tank without any issues what so ever. I think the filter holds a small amount of bacteria compared to the entire tank so taking media from an existing filter is fine but i tend to think the new tank it's going to may not be that much better off, certainly not in the short term. there needs to be the time for the small amount of bacteria to grow out into the tank itself. just my take on it.
