  1. we have a video of our son sucking his thumb in the womb.
  2. i swear i did not read this beofre i got my idea
  3. i just had an idea, what about a registration system like cars. You pay each year to keep spmething exotic & when it dies you "surrender the plates" so to speak. that way they can track what is going on but now i have thought of the problems when they breed ........ & policing it ...... just an idea.
  4. they need to appear to be doing their job etc & as you have stated it is very easy to smuggle things in. Although it can't be that easy as people are still trying to post things in.
  5. on the hush hush, word of mouth etc not buying/selling of TM. To get something something your not supposed to have & be able to keep it you shouldn't be telling the whole world about it.
  6. i'm with maf, i live in the country so get to appreciate the native birds etc alot & wouldn't want it any other way. As for keeping exotics, none of us have an issue keeping them without them becoming a threat to natives but selling them to others is the first big mistake.
  7. i don't even bother trying to burn that, it creates more ash than flame. you may just want to leave him to it, you can lead a horse to water but ........
  8. whats the deal with newspaper these days, it used to be (when i was 12) brilliant for starting a fire but now ( i am nearly 30) it seems to be hopeless.
  9. you were waiting for someone to confirm what you said before saying any more a? there is still time for other opinions
  10. they look like they should 8)
  11. haha nice, whats a baby turkey called? turklet?
  12. i think this is one of those questions that is very interesting to find an answer to but doesn't effect us to any great amount. I understand about the bacteria etc & what it does but everything i do against "the facts of bacteria" never does any harm to my fish at all. Every 4 to 6 weeks i unplug the filters & empty/clean/flush them completely including piping at the same time i do a 40% water change, hook it all back up & get it running again. In theory i have killed all bacteria that i had & now my tank should totally or partly re-cycle to build up the bacteria again. I have around 30 africans in a 200L tank so stocking is high & never had an issue in almost 3 years. I used to worry about it but really don't see the need to anymore, there are more imprtant things to worry about than how much the bacteria is effected if the power goes off or if i do a complete clean of the filters. a few weeks ago we lost power for 12 hours or so, the only thing that happened was the temp dropped a few degrees, the power came back on & there was no problem at all.
  13. there are a few africans you could add, some have had success with these & others have had trouble so sometimes it's trial & error. I would add a group of peacocks which should be fine, red zebras, cobalt blues or others that may be available from time to time like Red empress or similar. I'm sure someone will say to stay away from the zebras but i have never had any issues mixing these, i currently have them with out any dramas at all but am unsure why i am successful with them while others are not.
  14. I haven't had a parrot fish before but my nastiest african cichlid doesn't bother my clowns at all. they rub shoulders all the time & it's almost like they don't see each other.
  15. you L# catfish keepers are worse off than us african peacock keepers & thats saying something
  16. so what were the fish that could possibly mixed? What female held & what males were there?
  17. i have had clowns with africans for a few years & they do really well. I would expect others of similar stature like skunks would also be fine but i don't know anout kuhli's. My africans don't take any notice or ever chase the loaches & are often seen sitting near the africans & even rub against them gently. what is a snow white? what size are the africans? are you planning a larger tank?
  18. i can see red zeb in the mix?! the eyes & egg spots. where you get it?
  19. my africans have always done that, i just thought it was showing off. I haven't lost any to sickness so i wouldn't worry about it.
  20. flashing as in rubbing their sides on the bottom or on rocks?
  21. this is what i would buy, a piece of holden history http://www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-Me-Motor ... 433019.htm you will never go to a party where someone else has one & you'll probably be lucky if you saw another on the road ever. the odds are that i will also either hold its value or increase in the coming years
  22. why not something classy & tasteful i would be surprised if you had to pay more than $18K for these http://www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-Me-Motor ... 646131.htm http://www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-Me-Motor ... 646131.htm
  23. I use heavy nylon fishing line with a small sinker on the end to feed the nylon through then pull the brush through. I don't do it too often as the hose cleans most of it out. make sure to flush the taps & impellor on the canister to.
  24. my wife makes slippers from possum skins for our kiddies, the fur is great for that sort of thing.
