  1. im going to try to pair up my maroon clown, it is quite large and has changed to a very dark color since i have had it. i have owned it for nearly 2 years :-? so im not sure if it will accecpt a new maroon clown or if it will want to share its anemone but im keen to give it a go. i have been thinking of doing it for ages so i have asked around and most seem to think its a matter of luck really. so who has tried? were you sucessfull? any do's or don'ts?
  2. the goldfish bowl in hamilton has a maroon clown with gold stripes, saw it thursday, call brian he is great to deal with. i think it was a bit pricey at $98.50 (imho). i have a maroon clown with white stripes, great fish but a little bossy
  3. one of my plans for my tank this weekend is to hook up my new scwd to my return, i am using pvc pipe for my return but the fitting on the scwd has been designed for flexiable tube, ive had a bad experance with flexable tube and will not use it on my tank ever again! im thinking i will heat the pvc with a heat gun and use a hose clamp to shrink it to the scwd (it is a close fit to the barb on the scwd, i think its 20mm pvc and the scwd is 19mm at the barb) i will then remove the hose clamp, this might leak abit but i dont think that will matter as it will be submerged in my tank (so long as it cant blow off) sound like a good plan? :-? has anyone hooked a scwd to pvc? how did you do it?
  4. yep unfortunatly it is aiptasia, not the end of the world, just another thing to keep control of. i have them for a while and it seemed for evey one i killed there wer two more to take its place, i nearly gave up trying to kill them untill i read a artical in a coral magazine (volume1, number 6) and it said "mass propagation occurs most oftern in tanks that contain a relatively large amount of nutrients" i have since lowered my nutrients and continued with joes juice and have the problem under control. still have a few but nothing like i had.
  5. i tested mysis and brine seperatly, both off the scale (10ppm). try it, it suprised the hell ot of me. needless to say i wont be adding the defrosting water to my tank anymore.
  6. cold ill try that next w/c, i will follow the sump with heaters on path, this will at least take the edge off. it will also save me a huge amount of time.
  7. tested the po4 in the water from defrosting my frozen food tonight, holy cow off the scale!! thanks guys now i know where my po4 is comming from
  8. doing my water change tonight and i thort i might see how people are heating there NSW. i use a big pot on the stove, PITA as it only hols about 10ltrs so it takes me ages to heat 50ltrs. tonight i have just put a heater in one of the drums and will see how that goes but i would think its going to take longer than the stove
  9. mine is around $160 per month during winter, and $120 during summer, my tank has 550w of heating, 372w lighting (300w 10hrs 72w 12hrs) 3xseio 1100 redsea wave controller, luguna 7, 2x power heads behind rocks, deltec 1250 skimmer. man with the money im not spending on power think of all the extra stuff for my tank i can buy :bounce:

  13. i have a plan to stop it blocking, this is where my spare elbow will come in handy, ill have the egg crate aroung 6-7mm proud of the face of the bend and cement it in place, this will prevent a total blockage, hopefully. :-?

    Some pics of my tank

pm me to come have a look, i should be around most of the weekend. be happy to show it off. what is the measure of vodka for cyano? why dose cyano grow? is it po4 related? im running rowaphos and it has reduced it heaps. i dont have a reliable po4 test kit at the mo so not sure where im at. reading is too low for the test kit i have but that stops at .5 so not really much use.

  16. yeah i do. i was think out loud there, easier to fit the egg crate to the bend then quickly swap the bent with the egg crate for the one without. just lasy iguess
  17. cool, ive got a standard durso also. i even have a spare 90 degree bend that i will measure and fit the egg crate to, then fit to the standpipe.

    Phosphates

i sort of agree with you, it will not really fix the cause but it will remove the phosphates, it will remove them quickly, them remove the cause.

  20. that is a VERY good idea, i will be buying some egg crate tomorrow and fitting it.
  21. i got home from work tonight and i couldnt see mr cbb anywhere i looked behind all my rocks first without moving them then i decided to have a proper look and move EVERYTHING  still no sign, so i figured he jumped out and had been a late lunch for my cat  however, as i did my daily top off, i noticed that my water level had dropped much more than usual, i figured it was cold so prephaps that was to be expected, but then i noticed my overflow was not at its normal level eather (can you see where this is going :-? ) so i pulled apart my stand pipe and......there he was! i have no idea how he managed to get over the overflow, no other fish has managed it but i dont run a combe so i guess i have only myself to blame, 7000ltrs per hour what a way to go!
