i havnt tried frozen blood worms, but i will get some today and give that a go. i will also try to rase some adult brine shrimp and put that in my display and see if he goes for that. he isnt weak at all really, he can still move very quickly if disturbed and is swimming as normal, im more trying to prevent him from starting to starve as apposed to letting him become starving and then trying to fix the problem. prevention rather than cure is my motto. where do i find white worms? thankyou wasp for you honesty, ill keep him in the display for a little while longer and if he dose not improve or switch to feeding on a regular basis i will move him and follow your advise on how to get him feeding.

this sounds like a good plan, and i have a tank set up and running only a 2 footer but its got live rock in it and a skimmer so its all good. where or how would i go about getting some adult brine shrimp? i have a hatcher for brine shrimp, do i grow them from this or can i get them another way? thankyou.

the first one ate a bristle worm that was too big for its mouth and it couldnt spit it out, unfortunatly i was away at the time and didnt find him till he was upside down and very ill. this was over a year ago so my tank has moved on quite alot since, there is less aiptasia now but everything else is similar, except for my fish that have been added, a clown tang and a yellow tang. he is visibly thinner, at least i think he is, maybe im looking at his tummy more now than i was but he dosnt look the best. im sure jansens could spare some of there aiptasia  cheers

yeah, 2 weeks last sunday. i would agree on the eating but not enough. i would just like to be able to target feed somthing, maybe just to give me peace of mind really.

hay tim, i got it from my lfs, it was ther for over a month possiably 2 months, it got white spot shortly after arriving at the lfs, it was eating most of the time (this is what i was told) and i asked to see it eat on many occasions, it did eat just before i brought him. i have tryed live brine but not adult, i have a few adult shrimps in my tank mot sure if they are brine or mysis or what but there is plenty if he was into them. he spends all his day picking at my rocks, not much left after 2 weeks. thankyou for constructive questions

i understand that copperbands are difficult to keep. i have read about them, never had problems with feeding them before, the others i have had were lost due to 1 eating somthing it shouldnt have and the other died the first day i got it, so not sure what his problem was(wasnt skinny though). "experienced reef keepers" i need some advise, whats the best method for getting them to eat? i know there probably not failsafe but im ready to give anything a go.

i have tried: frozen misis shrimp, brine shrimp (live and frozen) nori, flakes, granules, fresh mussell! but no, he just aint interested. he picks around the rocks, eating feather duster worms and small aiptasia but there aint much left and he is very very thin. any ideas or sucess storys? he is my 3rd copperband and i really dont want to loose him

did a water change tonight, just for fun i decided to test the nsw i was putting in, dKH=6 ca=300 i am amazed! i let everything settle in my tank after the water change, then tested dKH, still at 8  im having trouble bringing my dKH above 8 anyway, what is the max rise that is safe in one go? ie: how much of a rise in dKH (at one time) before things start to go bad? i use reef builder (seachem) and it says not to exceed 1meq/L per day, what is this in dKH? im putting in 3-4 teaspoons per day now and that seems to be just keeping up with my consumption rate. :-? am i better to follow the trend of baking soda? how much baking soda per 100 litres to rase 1dKH?
-
good plan, im testing every day at the moment, im still keen to test yours if you want.
-
been checking my KH daily for 2 weeks now, started at 5 :-? im aiming for 8 which i have been at for just over a week, been using reef builder (seachem) between 2 to 3 teaspoons per day to keep it stable interested to hear if this is a high amount for me to be needing or if its fairly normal, i guess it would largely depend the stocking level of the tank, im largely soft corals with 3 sps. what KH level do you mataine your tank at? what do you use? how much of it do you use?

i think this has got a bit out of hand, no one has come up with another option for treating flat worms other than using flat worm exit. this in mind what other products were we going to discuss? i would like to thank reef for explaing to me (and anyone who reads this ) how to correctly use the product. IMO i dont feel that reef was promoting this product in any way, and as it is the only way to remove flat worms, having advise from an experanced reefer who has used this product in there tank, is very important to me. i didnt really want to get involved in this but as i started this thread i felt my thorts might count for somthing. thankyou to everyone who has posted on this thread, all your comments are very helpfull to me, and any one who may see this thread in the future (remembering that is how i discovered that i had flat worms-by reading old posts).

reef, thats is amazing, i love it!!!! :bounce: :bounce:
-
yeah that thort did cross my mind but i figure if he has used it, it must be good stuff, and there aint that much money involved so selling one more wont make him rich. and i dont mind supporting a very helpful guy. :bounce:

i have decided i will remove as many as i can today and tomorrow and then use the exit! i will be following reef's instructions, but i have a small question, dose the 20% water that i took out while doseing with exit (then return to the tank after 20min) remove the need for a water change? i would guess a water change after all will not do any harm. THANKYOU ALL for your help. this site can be such a great tool for objective disscusion's that newbees and more experanced reefers can learn from. im very pleased, nothing quite like an informed decision! :bounce:

i might take you up on that offer, i am leaning towards using it as im not sure if i like the idea of having something in my tank that could potentally become a serious problem if they all die, i guess flat worm exit is a controled "bomb" to kill them so you know when it will happen and can be prepared to deal with it, rather that if for some reason they die and your not prepared. still on the fence a little, what would cause flat worms to die out of the blue? if its a nutrient problem and i reduce the nutrients in my tank (which i would like to) will this cause a mass death and then a toxic blume? i will syphin out as may as i can see, that will at least be a start.

hi reef, what will diping the corals in fresh water do?
-
ok i was reading back through the forum and came accross pies thread about flat worms, i thort the picture he put up looked fimiliar, just had a look and sure enough i have thousands of flat worms on pies thread he used flat worm exit, sounds like a good product if used correctly (heaps of carbon, water change etc) my question is: why are flat worms a problem in our reef tanks and what would happen if i did nothing about them (im planing to do the exit thing tomorrow night but just interested in what effect they would have if nothing was done about them) any feedback about products you have used to fix these little guys would be great.

let us know chimera, ive got a 4brm home so will probably be in the same ball park price wise. i might give them a call and get them to quote on it, be easyer than doing the install myself, and i agree that bunnings have a cunning plan for selling "cheep" products. so a pro job will be better all round i would say.
-
im in the electrical trade, this isnt a cheep budget vent kit, it is totally quiet and is acousticly insulated, the motor/fan is dampered to prevent any noise, it is filtered as well, its trade list price is $1768. 8) i dont want a budget one as the fan noise will drive me nuts , so i may well end up buying the one i looked at, but i should still check out bunnings to be sure.
-
just been to the electrical wholesalers, my man there said that bunnigs are the place the place to go as they sell it cheeper than any wholesaler can buy it for i will call into bunnings tomorrow hopefully and see what they can do. 8) just out of interest my guy at the wholesalers can do a smart.vent proseries vent kit (with control board and all fittings etc) fot $1040 :-? . that kit is designed to do a 140 sqm home.
