  1. Happy Birthday!!!!! :bounce: have a great day! is you tank getting any presents?
  2. i know someone who has had the pleasure of meeting him, wont say who just in case, but Layton was kind enough to meet with him and show off his marine tank, sounded pritty nice too. if nothing else, it dose provide an interesting read some of the time, shame really is that i have read lots of the eairly posts on here and it seems that it wasnt allways like this......
  3. cool, cheers Layton and Reef, i will keep an eye out for one once ive finished my wish list of fish.
  4. that is very nice Layton, is it more aggressive than a clown tang do you think? i had a clown tang (traded it in), but im sure it was more aggressive than normal, seemed hyper active, never stopped moving.

    chimera's needs help

i agree, but i tend to think it is more carbon then the lights, as i don't think the lights would have caused this amount of problems without the carbon "cleaning" (striping) the water. i guess if your not adding the vodka to the tank then you may as well drink it, wouldn't want it going stale or anything.....

    chimera's needs help

that sucks dude!!!! must be heart breaking! I'm gutted for you. that is all i can say in polite words......... so do you think the fluidised carbon gets the full blame? i was in one of the lfs yesterday, they have a fluidised reactor that has carbon in it (as well as other media) and it is a red sea product designed for marine. only a very small amount of carbon, approx 1/2 a cup.

    New aquascaping

great work! makes the tank look bigger.
  11. automotive paint suppliers will stock it, its use for degreasing engine bays prior to painting, good for getting oil stains off driveways and the like.

    Not so good

Im sure if we all stopped and thought about it, we would have realised that keeping a reef tank will have an effect on the reefs of the world. What I didn't realise is that we (or mainly the USA) were taking that much from the reefs. I assume there has been a study into the growth rates of the natural reefs around the world, I have a DVD on the great barrier at home and it quotes the growth rate at an amazing amount per year, but I can remember the exact figure, be interesting to hear the total growth of all the natural reefs combined to give an annual squire km, also with aqua cultured pieces becoming more popular and also more available, it will be interesting to see if the reefs continue to suffer the same way they are now. Why is it that our hobby is getting the largest portion of the blame, when im sure that environmental condition, pollution and other factors all contribute to the decline in coral and fish populations? Is it that our hobby is doing the most damage? Maybe I just don’t want to feel guilty..........

    Reefs Reef Tank

those clowns are excellent! are they aggressive? that angel is cool too, how big is big boy?
  18. cool, cheers man, i will get my razor blade out next time i have my arms in the tank.
  19. i have no worries with attaching it once cut, i am just unsure where or how to cut it. has anyone cut one of these sucessfully before? how did you do it?
  20. Very good read. Interesting about the tissue rot causing the frag to come loose, something I hadn't really thought about. Also the tissue infection from damaged due to being tied too tightly, good things too know. I have a big pin cushion leather that I want to frag, how would I go about that? I.e. where would I cut? I assume I need to cut it down the stem but I haven’t read anything on fraging this type of leather.
  21. i agree with reef, i was using tap water when i first set up, now i have a RO-DI, would not be without it, rates in my top 5 best peace of equipment for my tank, the tap water in hamilton is full of bad stuff, get it tested at a lab and they will tell you the same thing, defiantly look into getting a water filter for top off, or use bottled water, packnsave have bottled water in 5ltr packs that is RO-DI, costs about $4 from memory.
  22. Welcome what dimentions are the galss planes that the skimmer would be hanging on?

    chimera's needs help

you could use water from my tank for your water changes, nitrate of 25! this is way out of my league, but im interested to watch to see what is causing your problems chimera, i wish you the best of luck with it all. just a point i should add, i moved my carbon to a higher flow area last wensday, within a day my lights had more penitration, i have noticed no effect yet but im only running 2x150w mh so any extra light getting into the tank will be better for me.

    My Anemone Tank

thanks for all the nice comments. i may look at adding another anemone at a later stage, just depends where my current one decides to live. i am the same, i was the cube tank at jansens, couldnt beleve that it was possiable to keep such things alive in a tank, went back over a year and there they were, full of life. there was no helping me from that point, i wanted one!
