i find LPS very easy to keep, best way to know if they suit your system is to try a frag from someone and see what happens. not too sure about the racoon with LPS though, once again, if you can get a frag, this will answer your questions.

super dooper nice Fay, words do not describe how much i like both your tanks.

i got a great deal on a second hand AquaC EV-240 skimmer, second hand but in great order. i thought it was a big skimmer when i picked it up, but it wasnt untill i brought it inside and put it beside my sump that i realised just how big it is. MASSIVE compared to the deltec ts1250. so i have just givin it a clean up and set it up in my sump, it produces excellent bubble size and it is totally white in the main chamber. at this point i am very suprised at how well this seem to work (remember its only been going 5 min and i havent tuned it properly yet) but the amount of bubbles in the chamber is outstanding, compare that with the deltec and i would describe the chamber color on the deltec as greyish whith and the aqua c as ice white. here are a couple of pics i just took, at this stage its been running about 3 min. you can see the deltec in the fore ground, and the new aqua c towering above it. skimming already, after 3 min!!! very wet i would imangine but a good sign. :bounce:

need to come over and use my camera to get some pics of your tank kp, might do it a bit more justice. let us know how the move goes, do you want some of that cement to do your rocks?

just for you jude, hope this answers your question http://www.fnzas.org.nz/fishroom/next-vt17376.html?postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=15

i found harvey norman very helpful, and they matched the price from paralel (sp) imports.com they also had a great selection up here, not sure if all there shops will be the same but worth checking out.

any updates rossco?

thats what the safty stand pipe is for, if the one controled by the ball valve cant keep up, then the safey will prevent the main tank overflowing.

its not a hrad job to set up and build a sump, planing should take you the most time. price wise, keep in mind the cf1200 comes with media and plumbing, there good reliable units and nearly silent, very little risk of leaking etc. however, sumps have many advantages, i wish i had one back in my freshies days, remember perspex will flex heaps! brace it very well. which return pump? depends on a few things, noise, (will it be in the same room as the tank, and is noise an issue in that room) flow, (what sort of turn over rate are you thinking) cost, (=reliability) wattage, style of connection, internal or external? heaps of cheap pumps out there if you just want to try it out and see if its as good as you hope.

i have decided to add the denitrator tonight, mainly becouse i have it and i want to play with my new toy  i have also been lucky enough to get a good deal on an AquaC EV-240 Protein Skimmer and will be giving that a good clean up and sort out tonight, then i will add this (so much for one thing at a time  ), i think it will be interesting to see if the combination of my deltec 1250 and the aqua c as fas as skimate removed and color produced etc. i have been monitering my deltec for the las 3-4 weeks and have recorded how much it produces so i will get a fairly direct comparison. not sure if it will help the nitrate issue, but it cant do any harm.

cracker, your tank is outstanding! very very nice. all the others are great too, nice to have a thread full of photos of differant tanks, :bounce:

get the canon, its excellent! the canon also has super macro, just hold down the macro button and it goes super macro. i have no skill when it comes to taking photos, my camera dose all the work, i couldnt be happier with this one, and the underwater case is a great option. i looked at most of the cameras you listed when i was looking, i chose the canon due to the reputation mostly, any i like the way it opperated, seemed simple. this is just my opnion. Cannon Powershot S3IS excellent Olympus SP510 uz didnt see it Sony Cybershot DSC-H2 crap Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ7 great

have one stand pipe higher than the other, use a ball valve to control the water level and flow down the shorter pipe. if anything was to block the shorter stand pipe, water level will rise and drop down the longer (unrestricted saftey) pipe before it rises over the top of the tank and floods your floor.

those that have posted pics should be very proud of your tanks, they all look great! pat yourself on the back! those that havnt posted pics are eather feeling the pressure of this time of year or need to pat themselfs on the head.

well that isnt too bad wasp  in fact i would go as far to say that is awesome!

i agree reef, this is the purpose of these 2 peices of equipment, i will defenatly be using the denitrator, just thought it might be interesting to use my tank as a bit of a test to see if uv will change anything. i have the denitrator now, the uv will need to be ordered so that might take a while to arrive this time of year. hence the order i was going to add the equipment. my main goal is to reduce my nitrates. so denitrator will be the go. but the question is will uv have any effect on nitrates. Layton, you used/use a uv and you beleive it had a part in reducing your nitrates? how long did that take? i know you have said it before but i cant remember where. (read too lasy to look  )

na bro, still planing to add some more rocks, i have to have a big change around, i have 14 sps to add and no where to put them... i didnt sell enzo (maroon clown), he is my first fish, and he will only leave the tank when he fails, call me soft but i just cant remove him, no matter how annoying he becomes, he has managed to move 3 corals since i took that photo. thanks for all the nice comments people, i agree with kp, the colors are washed out in that shot, but it gives the genral idea, lets see some more full tank shots from tonight, be a good thread to revisit in a few months to see growth. never mind the color of the pics, lets just see where everyone is at.

no need to be sorry Billaney, that is a very nice tank! here's mine, as of 5 mins ago.

i have 2 options avalable to me, both of which im sure i will use in the end. as im sure most are aware ive been battling nitrate for a while, i have purchased a denitrator and will add uv as well. if i add the denitrator first i will not have a clear indication on how uv affects nitrate, however if i decide to add a good UV unit we should all be able to gauge the effect it has on nitrate, being that my nitrate has been unshakeable at 50 for the best part of 3 months. any reduction with uv could be linked to its addition (not very scientific but interesting all the same) so, who would be interested in hearing the results of adding UV to my tank?
-
yep, my sulphur denitrator has arrived this thing will take ages to get the nitrate under control. i will be setting it up this week, from there i have to wait 3-4 weeks for the out put to drop to zero nitrate, then i can up the flow, i will start at 1 drip per second and once i have a constant dribble i will add the uv. uv for me is more for the upping skimmer output and increased water clarity, similar to your ozone i could for the sake of science, not start the denitrator and add the uv now, this would give us more of an idea of how the uv affects nitrate in my tank. hmmm might start a thread as a bit of a pole to see who is interested in me doing that.

http://www.fnzas.org.nz/fishroom/uv-questions-answered-vt16857.html might clear up a few things for you andrem, worth using IMO i will be adding one shortly, just made a few changes to my setup and im letting each one take effect before adding the next just to get an idea of how each one changes my tank, so uv will be end of jan at this rate but i will get the unit shortly. im thinking of getting a deltec, layton has had good results with his. havnt priced it yet.

seems the mods have removed a number of posts, mine included. can the mod that removed the posts please tell us why they were removed? NSW for me, i test it on each collection, never had any issues with it, but i get it from the same spot every time, and usually approx the same tide. NSW is defenatly cheaper for me, and i enjoy the drive over to raglan, and the time out is another bonus for me. I have always had enough salt mix on hand to do a 100% change, just for the safty factor. the best part of using NSW for me is the speed of a water change, all up to change 10% (45ltr) it takes me 25min, and that includes putting the buckets away etc, to do a 10% with ASW i would need to prepare 45 ltrs of RO/DI (read flood because i forgot to change the drums) then measure and add the correct amount of salt mix, then add a air stone to each drum and leave for 24hrs to mix, then check the sg and start the 25min procidure i do whith NSW. time is more of a factor than money for me, i can spare 2 hrs every couple of months to go for a nice drive to the coast and enjoy the view while i collect and it cost about $8 gas, rather than an hour a week to prepare the water.

heres a few questions that may help us answer your questions. :-? how long has your tank been running? how long has tha anemonie been in your tank? how deep is your tank? what are you using for water movement? is the "filter" a canister filter? if so whats in it? (sorry about all the Q's but it help us get a better idea of you set up) i have had 100% sucess with 3 anemonies i have introduced into tanks, i think part of that is luck and part of it is how i introduce them to the tank, i turn all water movement off and relese them at the top of the water level, they then float around till the find a spot that suits them, only time i intervine is when the go behind the rocks or if they land face down in the sand, otherwise i let them pick the spot and move the corals from around where they choose.
