    Surging Durso

I have a eheim 1260 return with about 2400 L/h, I found the 25mm valve the best (easiest to control). IME if the water level in the sump changes due to evaporation or water changes then the level in the overflow weir will change. But with water level controller it stays dead level.

    jdm's sump upgrade

it seems photobucket has shrunken the pic beyond repair. use this: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/down ... rtoys.mspx to resize the image if it was too large.
  4. so you have no bubbles coming out of your skimmer?
  5. When he does say stuff, it sure is wise
  6. Like building baffles into the skimmer
  7. Here is one of the discussions (arguments http://www.fnzas.org.nz/fishroom/help-w ... highlight= I ended up going with the full siphon, turned out: silent, no bubbles, constant level, IMO needs a backup pipe to sleep at night. But anyway back to the sump, the skimmer is the main source of the bubbles not the overflow. So baffles are necessary unless the water after the skimmer is really slow and deep with the return pump at the bottom.
  8. I agree simplicity is the key, but it is alot more fun designing a more complicated system   IMO, the main source of bubbles is obviously your skimmer, so keep the greatest distance between your skimmer ouput and the return pump. Baffles should have wide spacing ( >50mm ) to reduce the flow which gives the bubbles more time to reach the surface. A few things to think about are: With baffles the volume of water your return pump is sitting in limits the water level in the display. eg you return blocks and the return drains the sump compartment and burns out your pump, not the best idea but at least you don't get an overflow. If you don't have an effective way in which to direct the overflow water into the skimmer you end up with a decent layer of deteris in calm spots, although this can be vacuumed out its a PITA. Good luck
  9. I don't think this will give you a fair comparison as your tank is not mature yet. Patience my friend (coming from me   )

  16. You may see a small cycle if anything dies in the transfer. If you are mixing the cured with uncured rock the cycle will be faster. Manderins prefer greeblies in your rock so will be a while before there is a large enough supply.
  17. huh, whats the back story?
