I lost an anemone to a stream so I did the same thing as rossco and put Novaflow around them.

Few updated pics, 3 months old now Just had a pretty mean hit of algae, its dieing off now. Hopefully will be clean in another month or so.

I also did a big clean out, left my sand in though. Drained the sump, its amazing how much crud ends up in there. Skimmer is going nuts after the big stir up. The only thing is I took out too much water and now the systems running a bit low :oops: :oops: Come on RODI, you can do it :lol: Also what is HLE?

I have tried catching mine, pretty quick when they want to be. My problem is that the acro he is in is stuck down so even harder. Might try and blasting him off with a stream into a net, sounds intense I know :lol: :lol:

What do bad crabs look like? Got a couple in my SPS's, but the arco that maybe receeding doesn't seem to have any in it. One of the crabs I can see is dark orange and hairy, the other looks like your average beach crab but miniture.

Yeah, them do seem to run into trouble at high dosing rates, burning SPS tips and ORP levels all over the place. IMO low level treatment would be the only way to go.

What size UV are you using? What pitfalls does ozone have that UV doesn't?

From what I have read UV has nothing on the clarity of Ozone use.

I have done a bit of reading on that subject. If I had one I would use it The main purpose would be to increase water clarity, and break down a bit of proteins. So I would use at about 20mg 24x7 The only real disadvantages I see are that it makes your skimmer work less and puts the load on bacteria. And if using higher doses without a controller it can kill your tank if not carefull. Surely someone on here has dabbled with it.

So flake food doesn't have relatively high phosphates?

Then whats the point in rinsing frozen food?

I thought flake was high in phosphates?

I use saturated limewater as topoff, 24 7. Seachem 'reef advantage calcium' to get the level up once a week.

There is more than this...

You can install a ball valve on the pipe at the bottom of the overflow weir. By slowly closing it, this will raise the water level. You will still need a cover over the pipe intake because if anything gets into the pipe it will block the valve and cause either: the pump to drain the sump or an overflow. I am running this setup but have an emergency overflow pipe as well. The water level keeps dead level (evaporation will cause it to go up and down unless topped up regularly) so haven't needed the backup yet.

Diatoms, it happens to all of us, will clear up by itself in a few weeks
