  1. My Tropheus duboisi who is my Frontosa tank "cow" is holding.. but to what? It (which I now know is definately a she) is playing mother For a few days I have had major breeding behaviour going on in the tank, 2 what seems to be harems of Frons, one down either end of the tank.... fish getting a bit stroppy so tomorrow is the day that the tank mates get taken out minus the Alto comp and this hussy Duboisi, as they are staying in there for good. So what is coming out tomorrow are a few Brichardi, Lelus, and the Chipoka Peacock male who was put back in there (the Frons tank mate) Frenchy.. what would you say she has bred with? Damn shame it wasn't another Duboisi

    Demasoni Fry

    That was daring Alan
  3. Go for it Frenchy! And I only say that as I notice you are definately keep your White Calvus And of course keeping the Demasoni A change can be nice sometimes, the good thing is, you are still keeping the Africans (which is most important of all)

    Demasoni Fry

Congrats on your newbies Get used to the varied number, mine are like that to, however my females always seem to want to breed, at times have the little suckers coming out of my ears  They are a nice fish huh
  5. How long ago did you get yours Tiden? And how big are they now?
  6. Didn't even read the Q&A section Alan, good spotting, I am with your thoughts, that someone made a deal behind TM auction, that stinks :-?
  7. Synodontis decorus are retailing at the moment at 6cm, for around $52 each. Blue that TM link looks exactly like my Vermiculated Synodontis that came in on the lists rather a while back.. just had a measure up and he is around the 15cm mark
  8. I am trying to think what could possibly be here that would go in your Tangy tank nicely without getting too large.. hmmmm The Nyassa certainly get rather big, stunning looking fish tho. I have seen so many Synos on the net that I just drool over that we don't get here :-?
  9. We are going of course  Will be awesome to catch up with familiar faces and meet new faces!
  10. Multis going over here (NZ) for $85 is dirt cheap, makes me then wonder if they are the true Cuckoos... once again, it could be something brought in as Cuckoo, however may end up Nyassa... like a last lot that came into the country, the true Cuckoos that came in as the last lot however were the true ones, and they were VERY expensive. If they have got Multis in for that price, then awesome stuff.. The Nyassa alone were retailing for $120 each and the true consignment of Cuckoos were alot more.
  11. They bought in a shipment of of Synodontis Njassae (Nyassa) rather some time ago now.. they came in labelled as Cuckoo but turned out to be Nyassa... But the latest shipment that came in as Cuckoos a few months ago are indeed the true Cuckoo, and the price was much more expensive. Is there anyway you can get a pic at all? Here is a link to the Lake Malawi Syno (Nyassa) There is a small spotted variety and a large spotted variety. http://www.planetcatfish.com/catelog/species.php?species_id=239 And here is a link to the Cuckoo Syno http://www.planetcatfish.com/catelog/species.php?species_id=95 You will notice the tail markings are really distinctive to, with a long thick banding of black.
  12. Alan is bang on, broken pots or tubes are a great idea.. I have had two mishaps with just building caves out of rocks, rocks move if not siliconed and it can result in trapped fish.... not good :-? I have built my limestone rockwork around terracotta pots, ok not the most natural look but hey, beats trapped fish, and siliconing is fine and dandy till you want to get a fish out, then it's not so easy having rocks stuck together  Hence why I use the pot caves to build around.
  13. I keep Synodontis Nyassa which is from Lake Malawi, so in regards to my Synos, NO I am not against people keeping loaches in with Afs, that's their choice, I just like the idea of "biotype tanks" however, I do realise that the "rules" can be bent from time to time
  14. Well at least he got that species and spelling right   Naughty me, I shouldn't poke fun, *slaps own hand* Would hate to think... the guy could have a learning disability or something
  15. Congrats Here's hoping We have six huge dollars, have been in 1500 litre display tank out at hubbys work, and they spawned constantly, and the fish just swim underneath having a good feed
  16. BGK will eventually take smaller fish out... they can fit more into their mouths than ya realise  I used to have a reasonably large one and he would quite happily have a go at fish smaller. It is also a shame that they are so readily available as southerngirl said they grow LARGE and end up needing a very big tank. I saw one last year that was HUGE... and when they are larger you can see their mouth in more detail.. it is almost hinge like. Beautiful fish
  17. Definately as Ktttk said, Geos love sand, infact sand is better for them as substrate I am just setting up our 760 litre tank with river sand, for my Jurupari and Suri, and wussy pair of Jack Dempseys  Awesome to see someone else that keeps Geos
  18. In a bad way :-? Yeah Frenchy, I am chomping at the bit to find it, I am pretty sure I had it in my laptop bag, but I think it is one of those "put it away in a safe place" moments, so darn safe I just can't seem to find it in the places PC stuff is kept   I have a few pics I want to upload, so tomorrow I am going to hopefully retrace the steps of the lil' ol' camera cord  We are at this present time discarding of heaps of unwanted stuff and moving stuff around as we are wanting to redecorate the place, so everything is a little all over the place at the moment
  19. Yeah Frenchy is right I have seen some with the spots, the imports that came in as the "Hap Ahli" had very much the Utaka spots.... look like litho x fryeri to me. Oh managed to get a pic of one to Frenchy, of the fish that came in as "Hap Ahli" (last consignment).. you will be gobsmacked when you see it, I just have to download it onto my computer when I find the cord. The "Hap fryeri" that have recently come in tho are very nice No Utaka spots, nice clean bodies and good condition to. Glenn (peanuts), you ended up with some Haps with the Utaka spots to didn't you? What looked like fryeri x lithos. But they weren't imports tho were they, someone had bred them?
  20. Understandable, and good things take time huh It is funny tho, we got our 8ft Fron tank and about a week after getting it, it was a case of "ummm I guess we could have gone an extra two foot, or at least one"
  21. It may be done, but I am not a fan, I like to keep fish in the required water conditions... I like African Synos as tank mates
  22. Your Chocolate pair have spawned or the Choc and a Severum have spawned?
  23. Yeah I am happy with what I have ended up with So what lot were the finer body shaped, the Auckland lot or the Rotorua lot? The Otos haven't been on the lists for a long time now, I will have to look back to when I purchased my ones, it would have been rather a LONG time ago now, I think they have been on the list a couple of times.. I got mine when they were first showing on the list, but pretty sure I had seen them on the list again at one stage, might get hubby to double check that one. So possibly two seperate shipments came in within a few months of each other.
  24. Afrikan
