  1. MAF have threatened to ban alot of things off and on over time.. not sure if the threats will ever eventuate and if so when... Not sure about Fire Bellied Newts tho??
  2. We have Fluval, Aqua Ones, and still have our Jebo.. if you are looking at cost, Aqua One have had a good special on filters lately, not sure if they are still running tho? Caryl is right about the Jebo, they do run well enough for what you pay... Personally I love the Aqua One and Fluval, but at the end of the day it all comes down to what you can afford or want to spend Mekhaela
  3. Congratulations Make sure you keep us updated with pics of your pond process
  4. Ox heart not Ox heard, wake up Mekhaela! It's after 8
  5. I have fed the newts ox heard, beef strips, blood worms etc and they really chow down on that sort of stuff Yep you get sphagnum moss from plant shops definately, just dampen it down, I am going to use it for the Blue Tongues to help shed their skin. Oh by the way James to the Max, are you the one that used to own a big Red Oscar called Angue the Beefcake? Mekhaela
  6. Sorry to hear your sad news We had our 6fter blow out in our lounge at 4 o'clock in the morning... seal lifted down the bottom and it was all over.... I woke up to this whirring sound, like there was a helicopter in the darn house!!! Happened to be our 2 big external filters running dry! Managed to save all our central americans... phew! But it drained my linen cupboard of towels (thank goodness we didn't have our carpet down at that time).. and at 7 that same morning I was due to drive to Auckland  It was a case of bugger the water running through the house, grab the damn fish that are flopping around on the stones :-? Turns out the tank maker didn't let the silicone cure as long as he should, misread the instructions, we were spewing as it could have happened while we weren't home and we would have lost all our big fish :-? Tank was redone, at NO CHARGE
  7. oh awesome that is in fact something different to Johanni  , supplier the other day reckoned they were indeed Johanni males (was a little disappointed as I already have a nice colony of those) , would be good if they knew exactly what they had so people could be sure exactly what is on their list and what to expect before ordering or showing interest in getting some. We didn't get any because of course the thought was Johanni. The last lot that were on the list a while ago, Blues and Golden Melos were Johanni, so with this lot just being Blue Melos, people would automatically think they are Johanni males available again when instead they are something different.. 8) Keep us posted anyway!
  8. We purchased a Syno recently that we thought was a cuckoo, (sold as a cuckoo) However, since researching these Synos, the pics of Cuckoos online didn't match the one in our tank... the tail markings were totally different. Hmm, Oh well nice Syno all the same, but it still bugged me as I really wanted to know what we had... After getting the latest TFH magazine yesterday, here is the pic of our Syno in the catfish section! Turns out that the supposed Cuckoo that was brought into NZ could possibly be something else??... We actually believe we have the Synodontis ocellifer and not the Synodontis multipunctatus.. http://www.malawicichlidhomepage.com/haps/synodontis_ocellifer.html http://www.thetropicaltank.co.uk/Fishindx/syno-mul.htm I hope the links worked.. The fish are definately different, and the tail markings etc Any feedback on this would be much appreciated...
  9. We once had some little dwarf puffers, and I had never met such a small fish with such big attitude, they were just gorgeous  Made my Africans look tame in a sense Would definately own some again if we got the chance. Mekhaela
  10. Hubby been in touch with supplier. The Blue Melos are in fact male Johanni, funny actually because I remember awhile ago now they had Blue and Yellow Melos on the list, listed seperately... Blue Melos being the male Johanni and the Yellow/Golds being the female Johanni... Mekhaela

    Julies?

I have found that the Marleri seem alot more laid back than the Transcriptus, the Trans seem to dart around at each other alot more like little torpedos whee as the Marleri seem a fair bit more cruisy.. However, not saying they can't be bossy... think along with the Frons, they would be one of my fav Tangs Mekhaela

  15. They might well be holding somewhere nice and quiet, that's the problem when you have a well rocked African tank, you can't always see whats going on huh :-? Just keep an eye, heres hoping they are holding for you Mekhaela
  16. Wow, awesome if they are something other than the Johanni. Possibly could they be the Purple Mbuna - Melanochromis vermivorus that has come in? We have some here in Hawkes Bay. Mekhaela D
