  1. Baby squid look exactly like squid, but smaller. Baby cuttle fish look exactly like cuttlefish, except smaller. How about some robot fish? http://privatewww.essex.ac.uk/~jliua/videogal.htm Pie
  2. There are not documented as being found in NZ waters. Pie
  3. Photoshoped. Also note the sand, so its a time-bomb too... Next. Pie
  4. Cuttlefish get quite large. They are cool and very itelligent. Even seen those white things they put in bird cages? The things that birds peck to keep their beaks in shape? Well thats cuttlefish cartlidge. I've seen them in aquairums, not sure about their suitablitly in an aquairum, I suspect that if they were good candidates then someone would have them. The only Aquairum i've seen them at is Sydney and Townsville. Are they in NZ waters? No. Pie
  5. Wasp - I agree there are some good sumpless ket around at the moment. The big downside of course is all that visiable plumbing and cabeling. Still though, with some creatitivity and patience I am sure it would be easy to make a good job of it. I have been tempted to setup a clownfish tank here it work. Something small, sub 100 litres, rock, clownfish, eay to keep corals (no sps/lps). prob a 1.5foot cube. Zooanthids and mushrooms most likley. Just not sure if it will require the hastle of setting up a sump or not, so keep me informed on your tank wasp, love to see what you come up with. Pie
  6. No idea if two would make any difference or not. You should check Richard Durso's web site for information on the correct setup and assembly for the stand pipes. Better to catch it now then install it and have problems once its wet. Pie

    Green leather.

Layton - You have seen a green Lobophyton, I posted it as a green Sacrophyton and you corrected me on the ID. I also have a green leather, very swanky, looks like a normal leather buy green. Pie
  8. How big are the DURSO stand pipes? You realise that for them to work they need to be larger than the rest of the plumbing? So if you drain to a 25mm they need to be 32mm or larger? e.g. I use 40mm plumbing to my sump and my DURSO are 50mm. Pie
  9. The SeaClone uses the 'vortex' technology, the link looks like the Jebo is a replica of the Sea Clone skimmer. Interesting to think that if you were going to copy a skimmer, you would think they would copy one that works. The only favorable thing i've EVER read about the seaclone is that they can be converted into Kalkstirers, so for the people who have brought them they wern't a complete waste of money. Pie
  10. heh, so that leaves FACT and CRAP. We'll let the viewers decide which applies... Pie
  11. No idea, maybee it would work? Pie
  12. Reef - there are pics of some of that stuff posted by me (nice Blue Linkia star fish photos yesterday), on my tank thread and in various other places on this forum. Use them if you want to, I do however claim copyright for them, and expect to be credited for the photo if published. Pie
  13. IRA - Add aipstasia to the list Or, if we ALL agree not to put Aipstasia on the list, the responsibility lays with MAF to ensure that none of them get to us! Every cloud... Pie
  14. Warren what does that tell me? Shame to see your not allowed prairie dogs, that would be sweet. Pie
  15. Illegal for importation not for possession as it has been explained to me. Or i'll cop a plea by offering them the name of the importer who sold it to me to reduce my sentance, and claim ignorance about not knowing it was ilegal. OR I will say I caught it fishing up north, its listed as a Coastal Fish for NZ waters and has a rating of UNCOMMON. So they are about anyway. Pie
  16. Thats the rub isn't it? It means someone has to have already broken the law in the first place so they don't need to break the law doing exactly the same thing going foward? Pie
  17. ? Excuse me, what law did I break? I don't import livestock or sell it. Brooklands through my local pet store sold me my Hawkfish. They gave me a list and said 'anything you want on here, its all in stock'. I paid GST on my fish, that I purchased retail who in turn purchased it from reputed wholesaler. Pie
  18. What is going to happen? MAF already has a list, it is, for the most part ignored. Adding more names to a list that is ignored seems a little silly to me, thats all. Pie
  19. How do I quantify it? I can think of several animals in my tanks that arn't on any list currently, my Lionfish, my Linkia Starfish, my Flame Hawkfish, my Bungaii cardinals, my blue legged hermit crabs, my live rock, the crabs living in some of my corals, the pistol shrimp hijackers etc etc. The contents of any list published by MAF vs. the reality of what can be purchased here in NZ has little to do with anything other than supplier availability. 20. ? How does running tank water through the kalk stirer make up for the fact the the specific gravity of the tank will continue rise as more and more 'h20' evaporates? Pies
  21. I see no change, we can get ANYTHING we want now. The fact that we are expected to submit pictures of things that we arn't allowed so they can be considered for allowed status seems odd in the first place. Honestly I am surprised they don't just have 'you are allowed to bring in any fish thats not venimous or poisonous or on our naughty naughty list' and leave it at that. I mean where is the sense in allowing one type of chromas and not the next? Same deal for coral, what is the difference between one type of acropora or another? I travel a bit, the number of people i have seen stopped at NZ customers with bags of fruit, vegitables and other foods is astuonding. And thats just the ones I see getting stopped. We are talking about controlled importation here. Better of spending some money educating the pet owners about the risks "Hey don't flush nemo, lay him to rest in the garden or burn him in the fire kids" things of that nature. Pie
  22. Light, then heat. ALSO there is kalkwasser, which is a very cheap way to add calcium to the tank and buffer PH. The more evap, the more top-off the more kalk can be added. Pie
  23. Hahahaha SORRY, my bad. I thought at the time, 'hrmmm its unusual for Layton & I to be of the same opnion'. Hahahaha sorry Pie
  24. As I under stand it, the GBR is completely off limits for collection, both domestic and commercial for coral and rock. Pie
  25. Its ilegal to remove corals and rock from the GBR. Only fish, only certain types, and only at certain times of the year. Pie
