  1. they will eat all the snails in the tank and then if more hatch from any eggs then they will eat them aswell. HTH
  2. HAHAHAHA.....HAHAHA good one krissie
  3. Im looking for good things to put into a beef heart recipe for discus So anything you people know of that is possible, please tell Rogan
  4. first things first.... DONT GIVE UP!!!! There is obviously some sort of disease or similiar in the tank that is slowly killing off one at a time, are there any signs of what they have died of?? for example: I keep having harlequins die one after the other. one will get fungus on a fin and then be dead the next morning. i have tried pretty much everything possible to no avail. Im starting to think that it may be guppy disease as mystic mentioned, i dont know anything about guppy disease but you may want to have a google and find out what the symptoms etc are. Hope you can sort it out!! Rogan
  5. AHHH i seeeee. Good luck with them
  6. lol thats awesome. Ditto!!!!
  7. I thought i would start this thread so people can tell others what kinds of foods they make themselves, for their fish. If you could include ingrediants, amounts, method etc. that would be awesome. A good one would be beef heart mixtures (you can tell what i want ) Rogan
  8. Thank goodness I got that right Luke is saying its right so it must be I use bird grit in my tanks to keep the KH and PH up. Rogan
  9. a 2 x 2 x 2 foot tank is around 200 and something litres so you will need at least a 200W heater. What heater do you have now?? It is also advisable to have two smaller heaters instead of one bigger one. When doing water changes especially for discus (and with all other fish), it is best to buy a 75L plastic rubbish bin type thing from the warehouse or a 200L food grade barrel (or similiar) and have a powerhead (to keep the water moving) and a heater (set to the same temp as the tank). You leave the water in it overnight and it gets rid of all the nastys.THEN, when you want to change the water you syphon out the old water, and then pump the water from the storage barrel into the tank. This makes the water going in and out the same temps It also helps to keep the parameters the same, for example, if you are using something in your tank to keep your KH up you can put the same into the barrel and it will end up the same This is what i think is the easiest way to keep water parameters and temps constant. Good luck!! Rogan P.S. If you do get discus, i would suggest putting them into a bare bottom tank and keeping the water changes up until they are grown ups (if you buy them small) and if you buy them larger than i would still do it as they dont like to go straight into an unknown environment with plants, driftwood etc. HTH
  10. ohk. 10 - 11 hours is about right. Are the krib babys eating normal flake food ?? if they are, then you can probably take them out yes. Salt still can be used in a tank with BN etc. but only at half the rate.(about 1 tblspoon to 40L) Algae doesnt like salt very much. some people keep there tank slightly salted all the time but i personally dont think its necessary. If you wanted to take your time and hack away at the algae slowly then i would just dose flourish excel daily at 1 capful per 200L(I think it is) and possibly add salt at 1 tblspoon per 40L. The algae Should eventually die off. Otherwise you could get some algae fix or double dose the flourish.(jus keep an eye on your fish after doing this and if they act funny then water change it out) Maybe you could get some siamese algae eaters as they love the black hair algae. and i think ottos do aswell. HTH
  11. salt often kills it aswell so it is probably what has kept it from the other tank. It may hurt the krib babies yea. i would dose the flourish everyday at the recomended dose rather than just once a fortnight. this **should** kill it/ keep it away. Double dosing is a faster method of doing it but i would be a bit weiry with the babies and also even the scaleless fish like the pleco and BN. How much light do you have on the tank and how many litres is it etc. etc. etc. All this info will help the doagnosis HTH
  12. sounds like it is black beard algae (bba) Double dose flourish excell and it should die off. make sure you have no very sensitive fish in the tank though. Otherwise, i know a couple people who have used algae fix and it has worked wonders. Good luck
  13. Myself and a couple others will be coming over from the BOP!! I have SOME $$$ to spend Cya all tomorrow Rogan

It was a stressing time I wondered why one of my tanks was so cold (14 degrees!!!) and it was because i forgot to plug the heater and filter back in after i did a water change yesterday!!!Fish seem alright though No deaths so far Who else has had power cuts??? Rogan (i hate power cuts)
