  2. i have a filter i havent cleaned out in over a year and the water parameters in the tank are absolutely spot on!!!! it is due to the fact that the tank is solid plant....the fish can hardly swim...  But yea, i say just give it a good wash and a sterilize and it should be sweet Rogan
  3. OR Does anybody have a Powerhead they could sell to me that would be suitable for a marine tank?? Please PM me LPH and $$$ Thanks Rogan
  4. hi Just looking around for a powerhead for a marine tank im starting and came across this i will just take the filter part off it and use it as a powerhead Im not sure what LPH it is though, had a google search and it came up with 138 GPH which is alot of litres... Just wondering if anybody knows if this is correct or not?? Thanks Rogan P.S. Can this actually be used as a normal powerhead or will i have to keep the filter part on it????
  5. the tank is a 55 Litre. i already have a HOB filter on it (being used for freshwater now) that i can use...
  6. o and i can buy a HOB skimmer for $125 for a budget one or $150 for a good used one.... Im Setting up a few tanks ATM so i think its a bit much for now Maybe in the future i can add one to the tank......
  7. but if i only have rock then all the small pieces of 'crap' will just settle on the bottom and go off wont it???
  8. O and Lighting I will get a 10,000K light and a 17,000 Ish Light Will this be alright??? Thanks Rogan
  9. ok So ive decided to go with the Smaller tank. This is the list of things im thinking i need to get: Rock-Hopefully buy Live From the shop...??? Sand Powerhead- Guessing i only need one for this size tank Heater-Which i already have Salt Water- Would it be best to start with ASW or NSW??? And the last thing i was thinking was a HOB filter(which i have spare) that i could just put sponge and/or filter wool in...I was thinkin of this just to get rid of floating 'particles' and create Bacteria in it for general water cleanliness... It would also give surface agitation.... What are your thoughts on all this??? Thanks Rogan
  10. yea i know but would it still work or would it "crash"???
  11. im actually thinking of going with an even smaller tank then the 112 Litre and going with a 55 Litre 2 foot tank.... What do you guys think?? this way i could get away with less rock and sand etc. it would keep the costs down and it would be easier for me Thanks for all the help so far.... Rogan
  12. http://www.trademe.co.nz/Home-living/Pe ... 135227.htm Anybody keen for a $150 35cm Pleco???? look at the bottom of the description
  13. ok so after reading through that, i have figured i would need about 14 kilos of live rock for my 112 Litre tank to provide sufficient natural filtration, and then sand aswell.... So if its $10 a kilo for "dead" rock then it will be at least $140 in rock..... Then i would need a 100Watt heater, lights and sand....livestock.....corals.... the list goes on really. I see how it starts as a small project and becomes a small "costly" project Rogan
  14. So if i wanted to set up my tank (which i have just figured out to be 112Litres) without a skimmer what would i need??? lights, a little bit of sand and lots of live rock i would guess because the live rock provides natural filtration..... All i would need to do is do small water changes often?? is that right?? Thanks Rogan
  15. what is the smallest size tank you could get away without a skimmer in?? Like, if i got a 200L tank it would NEED a skimmer or it wouldnt work i guess?? so what would be the largest possible size without?? Rogan
  16. lol...well then.... i will PM both of them and ask what they can do for me.....
  17. This has been a good thread for me reading through it aswell Pene as i am going to be setting up a Tropical Marine tank soon. I have just bought a 112L tank which i am hoping to use. Could somebody please tell me what kind of skimmer i should get. Im wanting a HOB skimmer. I dont have any clue about them but I want something that is cheap but does the job...... As Pene I only want 2 clowns, a shrimp and maybe another smaller fish like a damsel.... Also only a few hardy corals... I will use a blue and a white light, possibly a third white.... Also i notice Wasp said to PM jetskisteve or Reef... Will one of them sell me a suitable skimmer etc...??? Thanks Rogan P.S. Sorry for hijacking your thread pene...will start my own once i start buying things
