To get rid of snails BEFORE putting the plants in the tank, get some pottasium permanganate AKA condys crystals and dip them in that. Make up a pinky solution in a bucket with some water and leave the plants in it for half an hour, then rinse them off and chuck them into your tank. All snails and algaes *should* be dead HTH

You could probably leave adult ish fish up to 10 days or so without food. Babys need it mroe often though

Ive seen a thread about Pale GBAS here before so had a bit of a search and didnt come up with alot. I think i recall blue? saying that a pale GBA is on its way out. Anywho, one of my 4 GBAs has been REALY pale over the last week, but is swimming, eating and cruising around the tank with the others fine. The pale one is also not as big. Heres the pale one Compared to a couple of the other ones Sorry for the not so great photos, sorta gives an idea, the normal ones are much richer colour in real life. I have expecting it to go anyday, but it hasnt, so thought id ask. Thanks

Buy an internal UV unit, even if you dont run it full time (it saves bulb life ) it will make a huge difference (will also help any possibly future disease in the tank). they can usually be picked up for around $100 for a smallish one. go to your LFS and see what they have. they work wonders

Sorry to say it but getting some new fish whilst you are having problems with others is asking for more problems. you should have left the guppys in the tank until it was fully cycled, then worried about getting new fish. one thing at a time, and remember, patience is the key With the new black widows in there, the ammonia will keep rising. Just make sure you do a 10-20% water change every 4-5 days and you should be fine. Hope this helps

They will lose colours when stressed, and wont get full colouration until they are much larger - most discus in pet shops are small. if you were going to put them straight into a tnak like yours, IMO (and i am no way a discus expert) they would need to be around 6 cms.

Small discus should be grown up in a BB tank, as it is easier to keep the water pristine. Once they are of bigger size they can go into a normal tank quite fine Discusguru has amazing discus, very healthy and very cheap. PM him

So your feeding three times a day? sounds like too much to me. I feed all my fish once a day (apart from fry which get it regularly when i remember)

That would be considered low.... 1 watt per litre is a good start, but is not always the best way to go..... 100W's on a tank that size would be moderate lighting, and could keep pretty much any plant you want..... 36w's isn't going to keep much looking nice

Anyway, back on topic, Sumps are way better than externals!! You can have any amount of things you want in them!! hope the new tank turns out well
