  2. Im guessing its not albino cos it doesnt have red eyes..... it is just a normal senegalus
  3. I agree, i bought a small one this morning!!!
  4. I have had 3 batches of baby platys lately and they are all looking like girls at this stage (one batch is 2 months old) What determines the sex of the newborn fry? will temp play a part in it at all (like some apistos etc) or is it just luck whatever you get? I did a google search but couldnt find much :-? Thanks
  5. eh? what happened to my comment? or did i not do it properly? lol Anyway, have you tryed insulating the tank with polystyrene? might keep the temp up that little bit more..... otherwise yea, just get a heater and set it to the loweest temp. what fish you got in there? just WCMM? if so, they will be sweet at a bit higher temp than 15 anywho so it will be all good.....
  6. i havent read the whole thread but thought id say that i scored a 1200 x 400 x 500 tank in 10mm glass for $25. all it needed was a clean 8) Then i got heater (brand new stainless steel 300W) for $55ish a 1200lph external filter brand new for $140 And scored the light for free (needed fixin which i did myself, was easy as) Plus about $14 for two light tubes Theres a cheap tank setup just like that...........
  7. Yep, i have mine in with BN, corys etc
  8. clown plecos are cool. they are usualy sold a 'pretty peckoltia' and are around $36. There used to be some small pitbull plecos around aswel and they were pretty cheap aswell, around $20-$25.... HTH
  9. anyone tryed vinegar? dunno, sounds wierd but it might work
  10. its the getting the water from the tank down to the sump without a huge gushing noise which stuffs most people up....
  11. dang they had gotten rid of it before i sold them to you! im trying to think how they would still have it, cos all the other fish dont anymore. You bought a hoplo just before them aye? is it in the same tank? sharn was telling me that the last shipment of hoplos had cammalanus so maybe they got it from him, or maybe i just didnt clear them of it properly (dont see how its possible though) Are you able to get a pic? i have some levamisole here you can have to get rid of it, just need to sort out how id get it to you. Man that sucks!
  12. Ive read that if you put an old sack on the lawn and put all your old tea bags and tea leaves, when you lift it up there will be heaps..... worth a try
  13. I hardly even know how many BN i have in my tanks. i see one here and there but never as a whole group and i can never tell them apart unless they are M/F etc.... i could have about 50 and i wouldnt know it
  14. Sounds nice. It depends on the litreage as to exactly what fish you can have but your standard 4 footer should take those fish comfortably. Id use either a fine gravel, or sand, or even a mixture of both if you prefered it. For filtration, id use an external filter around 1000LPH, which you could probably pick up on trademe for not too much, or even brand new for just over $100. Have you read my starting a planted tank article? ill try find it for you EDIT: here it is, hope it helps you http://www.fnzas.org.nz/fishroom/thinki ... 18044.html
  15. I think they are talking about albino BN. As cichlid7 said, leave the dad to fan the eggs. they will hatch in a week (from when they were layed) and then in another week they would have consumed their egg sacks and will be ready for some food. keep lots of food in the tank with them so they can graze whenever they wnat, but dont let it go off. Good luck
  16. ohk fair enough. so does that mean that the company could post the same link in the commercial trade and exchange and it would be fine?
  17. I had a bit of a look bill, but just out of curiosity could you please show me where it states that please? thanks
  18. inside oceans seem to be pretty good tank builders with quite alright prices. They have heaps of auctions on trademe for tanks and can be reached here if you can find their username.... HTH
  19. Well if you divide it into 50 twenty litre tanks, you could keep about 150 killies Stu, this 'small' killie room sounds cool.
  20. NAH! who needs help? we WANT you to get addicted to killies and setup another 40 tanks dedicated to them.... The NZKA is not what we say we are (haha only joking!)
  21. What a silly question! of course he has heaps of killies  You WILL be hooked, trust me
  22. Sounds like you have done it well. im sure you will have some survive!! yes bbs is the best for most fish, but its not often practical and alot of fish will still survive without them.
