    Guppy problems

I assumed he had already discounted the water hopefully he has already done his tests etc..

    Guppy problems

First one could be dropsy, either way it probably wont make it if its got to the scales sticking out stage, about all you can do for him is isolate him (I would do that anyway so nothing else gets what its got) adding epson salt will help with the fluid retention (causes the swelling). If its not dropsy its some sort of other internal problem I haven't had any luck once they've swelled up hopefully someone else can help with this. And the one thats getting picked on I would also isolate that one and see if it picks up.. I hope you didn't pay too much for them and manage to get them healthy and breeding
  4. Those fish will eat the eggs if they get a chance.. Leave a night light on so they can guard them until you remove all the other fish Oh and get in touch if you get any babies ill buy some
  5. If they're africans then you can sell them pretty much from free swimming as they're hardy as anything I only say africans because thats all I know about, I move them have brought them straight from their mothers mouths taken them home and never had a loss.. However if you sell them that small you wont get stuff all for them, what fish do you have?
  6. Rather than dosing your tank try dropping the meth blue directly on any fungus it seems work better for me and has the advantage of not staining all your silicon blue
  7. Generally it pays to turn the lights off at night, you will have algae problems etc if you don't, I don't know if the fish actually need a day night cycle it would probably help when breeding some fish as certain stimuli are needed length of days changes in water level etc..
  8. It is a shame to see I generally don't have the balls to do what carol does I have done it before though.. I think that we loose alot of people in our hobby due to what you mention they spend alot of money on these fish only to bring them home and have them all die, then they think the fish are too hard to keep or even go and try again only to have the same thing happen, soon enough the tank and gear ends up on trademe.. Its a shame that people rely so heavily on pet shop advice when many pet shop workers don't know anything (or don't care) about fish. Short of making a complaint or taking the person aside there is nothing you can do. I have often felt when offering people at shops advice they look down on me like I don't know what im talking about but when I talk to them they know absolutely nothing except how to sell crap to people that they don't need.

    new tank

Ill check and see if any microworms are alive I haven't changed their food for a while now Glad to hear they are doing well for you they do grow exceptionally fast
  10. You could get a male appisto but they may just hide too.. Maybe a feature fish like a dwarf neon gourami or something? But I guess they have issues with staying alive so probably not too good unless you know someone who breeds them..

    new tank

I would use the sump too, however I have an overflow in my 540L and I just got an FX5 because I couldn't be bothered with a sump..
  12. You could add more neons or black widows both of them should be out and about..
  13. What else do you have in the tank?
  14. Angels are alright can be pains though, I haven't kept angles before? However have learnt about them at school  What fish do you currently keep and what size tank do you have? Would pay to know those details before we can recommend fish to you, for example adding angels to a tank with small fish or a tank too small wouldn't work..

    new tank

lol yeah I reckon Since my Timor trip got postponed till April I should be breeding them for a while trying to find time to put fish in tanks in fishroom now ive got the time to breed them
  16. I kept aficans and clown loaches together and they did well They do get white spot if stressed and I would say yours have definitely been stressed, I used to treat mine with a very mild addition of salt when they got it but have to be very careful with loaches and salt as they have no scales and it can kill them, some seem to have success with the high temps and aeration so guess that cant hurt just watch them. Regarding food mine just cleaned up what if any scraps there were after the africans ate, I used to chuck in crushed up shrimp pellets and I guess they got some of them and whatever else hit the ground..
  17. You could keep Dems and kribs together I have and am at the moment.. However most purists wont recommend it as they're from different places, what PH and GH is your tank? Discus may work but I think they may take a hammering once the kribs start breeding like mad I would probably go for something more robust.
  18. Yeah Daf that was my theory too my last pair got treated with metro and prazi and they still carked it
  19. LOL I'ts not that they don't like you blue rams just die..I can keep any other fish alive but them They are my favourite fish too but the wife wont let me get more because she knows they are just going to die... I did have a spawn of them when I met her but I spent to much time with her and neglected them so they died too... It's not fair LOL
  20. Id say you did very very well to have him alive that long.. The most mine ever lasted was a few months and I tried different fish from different batches etc etc etc none of them made it! I dont think it was water conditions either as I did water changes several times a week and kept things sweet the last batch were in with discus and got daily water changes so who knows?
  21. Story of my life.. And everyone elses it seems too unfortunately
  22. Had it happen to me too, it was a tank similar to that one but alot older and second halnd I was lucky enough to be home and witness the perfect water fall too, the fish also lived in a bucket it is painful thats for sure! Would hate to think how to repair a curved front tank?
  23. If you quarantined clown loaches im sure you would give them white spot when first introducing them and then again when you stuck them in the main tank so it may well be counter productive.. In saying that qtine tanks are vital so you dont introduce other not so easy to cure problems and problems that aren't caused by stress internal parasites etc.
  24. Your summers down there you probably need a chiller! spent quite a bit of time in Blenheim the weather is stunning so don't stress too much about it, don't worry unless you have discus or other sensitive fish..
