    Kribs

Hutt pets probably used to do half retail but since someone advertised it on here and people will go in expecting it and fill the shop up im sure that would change.. Sometimes shops cut people deals  As for a number of fry most people breed more kribs than they can house off one pair IMO your better off to stick with your gold ram's as they'll be easier to get rid of.
  2. If they have long white poo's and not eating id go with bloat, ive never known a fish to just be fussy on its food especially if its a food that its been eating for a while. What are the pellets? Maybe they are bad for them but it takes some time to show? Or you overfed or water conditions dropped, fish got stressed who knows? If they're trying to breed they're obviously not too sad, I hope the fish breeding and holding are in species tanks dont want to be creating anymore hybrids I noticed in another post you mentioned you had a "pair for life" of peacocks? I dont know if your aware but the most dominant (or any male that can sneak a look in) will spawn with a female I watch it in my holding tank (where I stick all the peacocks with different coloured females when im not breeding them and all spawnings get stripped into the tank) all the time sometimes 2 or more males spawn with a girl and most times the right male doesn't even get involved. If they had whitespot it will be obvious they will have white spots all over them and ive found salt the best way to get rid of it in all fish its gentle natural and doesn't kill your filters, it doesn't take much I haven't had white spot very often in africans anyway only new ones ive brought once ive got them going in good conditions food etc they seem to be very resiliant to it.

    Gold Rams

Just feed them up and see what happens I think I killed mine by trying to start them off on microworms and not having a sponge filter in there early enough. I have my pairs in small tanks too but have them with other fish one pair in with discus, the other pair in with albino koi swordtails they seem to keep them busy enough that they dont pick on each other, I have one long finned male and one shorter (but still quite long) finned male very nice looking fish thats for sure Have had no luck with the blues either I got 2 pairs of them as well and lost both males I will be getting some new males soon so will see how they go next time!
  4. lol I would take them and give it a go but dont know when we'll be over in Palmy next have been over a few times this week already Some blue rams are good parents you might get lucky if noone takes them just leave them to it and see what they do!

    Gold Rams

Mine spawn like mad and ive had 2 huge batches of egg's hatch however I haven't had any success raising them yet I think I need some smaller food next time I have had no issues with the males being aggressive to the females they are both in mixed tanks so I think that helps as soon as they spawn I take the eggs away from them and hatch them artificially. Mine were homebred from Auckland though they may or may not do better than yours if they're imported.

Maybe they've only just settled in and coloured up?

    Gold Rams

I haven't noticed a change in the pinkness of the belly in mine my 2 females have slightly different colouration I go on the breeding tubes and fatness..

    Gold Rams

Before mine breed the biggest sign is the female gets really fat and starts to drop her breeding tube, it drops a little bit at first but within the day of them actually laying the pair go around cleaning areas and "flicking" at each other. Good luck ive had a few spawn's from my 2 pairs but keep killing the babies
  9. Could be holding but you should have been able to tell that by now.. What are their poo's looking like? If their poo's are long white and stringy, and they appear to be breathing alot heavier than normal and maybe a bulge around their anus area then they could have the earlier stages of bloat. If they do have bloat you have to isolate them and treat them with metronidazole (also called flagyl) and also some epsoms salt. What type of cichlid are they? Im assuming africans by your previous posts? If they're not then the above is probably incorrect. If they are africans and they do have bloat noone really knows what causes it its generally put down to an incorrect diet (bloodworms are quite bad especially for africans from what ive found I don't touch them and don't get bloat) Also if they cichlid pellets are too high in the wrong type of proteins it can cause it. Its hard to know without knowing what fish is sick. If you post more info on the symptoms and what fish they are then im sure we can help further..
  10. I have heard all sorts of things so I stick with feeding my fish food from cold blooded (or water based) sources.. The theory goes that cattle and other warm blooded animals have a different cell structure and apparently fish cannot digest it and this fat gets stored on their liver causing problems. I feed my fish shrimp which I get from the super market when its on special, so would recommend you do that.
  11. What do you mean by stronger? I know arowana's are pretty strong.. lol Do you mean hardy? All of the above are pretty hardy, be careful where you get your guppies from try and get local bred ones if you can imported ones seem to be a bit weak..
  12. Yeah harem spawner's are good provided you have a tank big enough for the females to have their own space. They are quite easy to breed and the fry will eat microworms, as for where to get some from I don't really know at this stage I have been meaning to track some down as well but haven't got there yet..
  13. Not all breeding pairs are sold because they are bred to death or useless, I have sold plenty of breeding pairs some even young pairs, usually because im getting out of that fish or as alex said I pass on a spare pair to someone who wants it or if the species is not as common or particularly nice its good to spread it around so its not all sitting in one place A breeding pair breeds successfully ie a fertile male and female, I have seen a few people selling breeding pairs of discus angels etc on trademe but have never seen a wriggler and that to me is not on as they could be 2 females and some poor bugger could buy them and get ripped off, I guess its is buyer beware but that kind of thing can put beginners off..
  14. I wouldn't even start saying or even speculating things like a cross or anything like that.. Hongi and yellows are the same family so they will always bear similarities you could spend all day doing that and get nowhere I hope everyone in your tank gets on well, I have brought tanks with weird fish mixed that lived together also, I had a tank of africans that had 2 "snapper fish" in it which turned out to be shredded bolivian rams, and a dwarf gourami also shredded with no fins, yes they lived together for a year but they didn't have a very good life and once separated out and with more suitable tank mates they did alot better.
  15. Are you talking about hut pets?
  16. I have seen yellow's survive in peanuts tank down there and there are some big fish hap's and others you would think could get them.. All other fish are eaten but yellow's seem to survive If you ever have any spare females let me know im trying to find some Nets in the same tank as adults are no good as they try and suck the babies through the netting and kill them, best to have a seperate tank or some sort of hard container with holes for water flow if you want it.
  17. Someone mentioned sticking a small bottle filled with water to catch any overflows so you can overcome the co2 bubble over..
  18. Possible but id say unlikely as I haven't seen hongi in NZ (probably doesn't mean they aren't here) have seen plenty of yellow's around with barring and markings around the nose shape etc is perfect as far as I can tell its just people breeding from poor fish and not selecting nice fish to breed from but I haven't researched or looked into it at all.. You could spend all day going through profiles trying to speculate what could have bred with what but unless you actually bred the fish or saw the spawning you would never know.
  19. It does have barring and darkness around the mouth, not the worst ive seen but he did say it doesn't show up as much with the flash, you can try a change in diet but from what ive found diet related discolouring is little blotches not defined bars down the side of the fish.. Guess he can only try and find out
  20. Oh and your stocking list is very different most people keep lake fish together but I have seen the fish you have listed together with no problems they all adjust to different ph's, most likely if you like the africans you will slowly sell off the others as a few people who have kept tanks like this have but only time will tell As long as you like it and everyone gets on I guess its ok..
  21. Thats a yellow, its just poorly bred not the worst ive seen though, best not to breed from him at all..

    My tank

Sweet I was hoping it was the jullies tank they should love that.. Another thing I do with my jullies is I had rocks stacked to the top, you do have alot of them and they will start being aggressive the most bullied ones in my tanks sat right up by the top and were fair game, you have time before they get that agro but its a thought you might have enough of them to get away with it I had pulchers with the jullies no problems, they may fight when they grow up and spawn but you will have plenty of time to sort your tank out and reduce numbers as they grow if need be. Good luck and I hope you enjoy them, they are a cool little fish and their parents are still breeding like mad and starting to get pretty big
