  1. They are here but don't seem to be being bred in any large number unfortunately as I am looking for some too Firenzenz posted some pics of his ones towards the end of this thread.. http://fishkeepers.co.nz/forums/viewtop ... =18&t=1100
  2. He sold up and moved to aussie a while ago so you won't have any luck getting hold of him.. Unsure if there are any of those around, I have seen similar ones but hard to actually id them being zebras and probably imported under some random name etc..

    Cockatoo Cichlid

They are a "harem breeder" but do require a larger tank to be successful in it, otherwise the first female to breed beats the snot out of the remaining female/s unless they tank is big enough for the female on eggs to have her own turf around them.. Colour will vary in the babies, myself and a friend have fish from the same line we got pick of the first cross from the breeder and since then have selected the best to keep the lines going and have some very good colour coming out now, will try for some pics of my 2 males when I have some time..
  4. lol just goto the skin bay it will be no worries.. I would suggest just lying something flat and strong strong on top of it and gluing it to it then you would have the glue bonding to a large surface area and it would be alot harder for it to pull apart..
  5. Good luck A-town keeps us updated with how you go hopefully you get to at least the stage where you see if the eggs are viable.. A cross back would be good to strengthen the genes but you would have to breed one of the siblings back to a parent or breed between siblings to get the colour back. Hopefully they are hardy enough not to need this.. I agree hopefully anyone who can breed them is very selective there maybe a high number of deformities etc pop up.
  6. Yeah was going to say if you want to meet up or do something just hit "reply to all" and suggest it
  7. Yeah that wouldn't be a stupid plan.. But it would entirely depend on what sort of money you had to potentially throw away, if they are anything like the blues/golds I have kept no matter what you do they just don't seem to last long.
  8. I am considering getting a pair or 2 and giving it a go.. But I am 50/50 with the fact that normal blues keel over so easily these guys would be more inbred so weaker.. And also the fact these are a new and sort after strain internationally I wouldn't put it past the breeders to have sterilized them before sending to control the market..
  9. What he said... But if you are asking about sizes of boxes that are best to ship fish in.. Couriers work on 5kg actual or volumetric weight for the charge of tickets. So you want a small box to be upto 5kg volumetric ally (L x W x H (all in m) x 200), bigger boxes can approach 10kg. They charge 1 ticket per 5kg same island and 2 per 5kg interisland, ticket prices range from $13-15ea.
  10. These are what I am thinking about with electric blue rams.. http://www.aquascapeonline.com/prodView ... 0Ram%202.5
  11. I am confused, are we talking about blue rams.. OR electric blue rams here?
  12. lol well that's helpful.. Do you mean redwoods?
  13. Is the brace plastic or glass? And is it flat?
  14. Where and what importer brought them in? It might be worth trying to order some in.. I bet they will be way more fragile than blues though and probably fiddled with to make them sterile before sending..
  15. Have you got a photo of the break?
  16. Sounds like a typical jebo heater I also doubt your house heating is causing this (unless you are actually heating your house to 28-29C). I think the thermostats are so cheap they probably take longer to respond to a raise or fall in temperature so you will get those variations. Cricketman sorry to hear about your losses hope all the rest pull through, keep an eye out for whitespot
  17. As Scottie said it will be fine that was why I linked you to it If I didn't buy all the rena's/fluvals/jagers I just have I would have gone through this guy http://www.trademe.co.nz/Home-living/Pe ... 397376.htm he doesn't seem to have any 100W's at the moment but quotes the manufactures 3yr guarantee which implies he will actually give it to you..
  18. There is no doubt the fish would be fine the problem is the heater shouldn't be fluctuating that much and with a jebo heater it is only a matter of time until they die.. I would go back to the shop and try and convince them to give you your money back to buy another one.. Aqua ones are quite cheap on trademe http://www.trademe.co.nz/Home-living/Pe ... 213107.htm Its a shame you didn't join the fishclub earlier I just brought a heap of rena heaters off a guy for myself and everyone in the club for $20ea, I might be doing it again so watch this space..
  19. Jebo is your problem All of the jebos I have ever had have had massive temperature variations (I only have 1 still going from the 8 or so I used to own) that is until they stop working altogether or stick on and cook the fish.. If I was you I would replace it asap before it stops working or sticks on and kills all your fish.. I would say the variation is not based on being overnight and you will find the temp will do random things every so often it is just what those heaters do. To the people that say it is normal.. How can that be? This person has a 150W heater in a 60L tank that is massively over heated, the same thermostat is in the heater why the massive temp variation? Yes it is harmless but I wouldn't say it is normal at all..
  20. It is not normal, your heater has a thermostat in it that should turn the heater on and off to regulate the temperature.. Reasons this temperature variation may occur: A very very cold night A heater that is too small for your tank A poor quality heater (what brand is your heater?) which has a useless thermostat in it.
  21. lol it was discussed and people are keen to do something I think Phoenix is keen to arrange it
  22. Mollies are known for their ability to eat algae etc and they often go around the tank pecking at everything.. I wonder if your fish are thinking the discus are something to try and eat off?
  23. Yeah you are right they are some sort of peacock.. It makes it alot more obvious when you see the tank is actually quite small with the person standing in front of it
