  1. No, i done the initial dose as written on the bottle, then doubled the dose's after that and done it every second day for 2 weeks, and that got rid of all the bba in the planted tank but our cichlid tanks used to be full of it and now its just disappeared from both of them so maybe hamilton water has a lot of phosphates or something and auckland water doesnt :-?
  2. We have just double dosed our tank but on strick advice from the lfs NOT to double dose that first dose... that one is already fairly strong, they also said from then on don't double dose every day, every 2 or 3 days should be fine, and we now have no black algae, i would highly recommend the stuff.
  3. Bunnings has a 15L bag for $7.48 brought one in the weekend.

    dropsy?

i'll grap the book a bit later and read up again, its a tfh desease book, the same one caryl gets all her desease knollegde from so it must be good
  5. Yeah i was refering to dropsy but i c ouldn't remember the name of it when it wrote that post, yeah since your feeding alot of live food by the sounds of it, i find that live food breaks down faster in water than proccessed foods and you have to be careful of over feeding. We went through a bad patch last year when our water conditions dropped and we had a bunch of fish die from various reasons, dropsy being one of them.

    dropsy?

You'll never fully get rid of dropsy, once a fish has it, it will always have it you may be able to get the symptoms down for a little while but in the end it'll come back and kill the fish, so have fun trying to prolong its life, i'd just put the fish out of its misery now.
  7. Haha geez how long you had them and they breed already, watch out last time the male nearly killed the female, and the first female we had was killed by the male when he was trying to protect the fry.

    Algae

yeah ours is normal straight tap water too.... adding the salt puts minerals in the tank that could be contributing the same way the coral rock in our tank contributes.... and our tank gets 4 hours a day with the light on at night and the rest of the time its sitting where it doesnt get direct sunlight.
  9. with the one that died did his scales poke out and all and make him like like a pine-cone... if your having another one thats getting pop-eye you might want to check your water as it could be bad conditions lowering there immune system and making them acceptable to diseases. Have you added and fish or plants recently?

    Algae

Hmmm we get algae like that in our freshwater tank to, could have something to do with the water being quite hard with all the minerals in it, cause ours is our malawi tank which is full of coral rock to buffer the water.
  11. Yeah i know what its like in the lfs with the peacocks, i would never buy any unless they were from a breeder and weren't hybrids, these came with a whole bunch of fish we brought and have held on to them till now, just selling them as someone might want them for a display tank.
  12. hmmm its only partially due to in-experience, alot of it is when females get mixed up as most of them are dull brown or grey colours and they are very ahrd to identify, the other part of it is people actually wanting to cross breed them for colours, fins, shapes etc. Cross breeding just really annoys me in everything, dogs, cats and even cows!!!
  13. I dont like all these dirty old hybrids.... flowerhorns and parrots and all that are just ugly man made creatons, its a shame the cross breed, breaks lines that couuld otherwise be awesome fish.... nothing wrong with selective breeding but cross breeding is horrible.
  14. i'll try get one a bit later on, but for shipping fish im at home alone all day and dont have a car or my license so you'd have to arrange for a courier to pick it up from here.
  15. I think with the top to I'll just call them auloncara sp as they have the shape but for the bottom one i'll just call it a Copadichromis sp since thats what you think it is dan and they are probably all hybrids anyways.... im pretty sure the bottom one is that rob breed.
  16. Hmmm no they look nothing like what is labelled electric blue on cichlid forum, the closest i can find for the top 4 pics are the 3 links i put up. But so far haven't seen anything that resembles the bottom fish. Trying to id them before i sell them so they have a name to go with.
  17. also very similar to http://www.cichlid-forum.com/profiles/s ... php?id=651 and http://www.cichlid-forum.com/profiles/s ... php?id=655
  18. Hmmm the top 4 pics are veru similar to this http://www.cichlid-forum.com/profiles/s ... php?id=638 but not as high quality as them im not sure i'll keep looking.
  19. i'd say pics 1 and 3 both come from the same family of fish they have very similar body shapes and there colouring is onnly slightly different. pic 5 has a different body shape and is some that we brought off rob whatever he has breed, trying to id the 3 of them. Have you seen the rediculous price for the boreyli on trademe... $98 bucks.
  20. They are 3 different fish so need each one
  21. Hey guys can you just help me id these fish please. These 2 pics are of the same fish. These are the same fish too. And the last one is

  24. total measurements are going to be 1800x750x600... so in other terms 6 foot by 2 and a half foot by 2 foot.
  25. Im getting a new 6 foot tank built and stand built for a malawi setup that will be converted over to a reef tank when im rich lol. First up, what size holes do i get drilled in the tank and where? What size plumbing is the best to use? is a tank just under 3 foot big enough to be the sump? Where can i get a metal stand built? Any help would be much appreciated.
