alanmin4304 got a reaction from camtang in Crypts in nz?
Most of the crypts at redwood wood have been imported by them and Bob Ward would be one of the most informed people in the country on identifying crypts. He has a lot of literature on flowers of crypts as well as info on DNA. Chances are that his identifications would be pretty spot on.

While the introduced fish like trout and salmon are considered more important than our natives they will have about as much chance of survival as our native lizards and frogs while people believe that cats should be free to roam and prey on whatever they fancy. Our values are a wee bit out of wack.

alanmin4304 got a reaction from VINZ FISH in Help! Plant identification
1&2 look like crypts and 1 may have been grown emersed. The leaves on each may melt but remove the dead stuff and theroots may gro new submersed leaves. The third is hairgrass that has been grown emersed (common commercially---has seed heads) Will mainly die if left in a large clump as it will not get enough light. Spread it out in to small bunches of half dozen and it should start throwing runners.

We are about ready to bounce back but still may not have any fish for a bit. People sometimes think that the stress in Christchurch is about the possibility of aftershocks. EQC are experts at making sure you get your share in other ways. After we paid a heap to get the house painted after some weatherboards had to be removed to repair part of the foundation and EQC only took responsibility for the weatherboards on two walls and allowed enough for a quick sand and a spray job. We put out thousands to get the whole place painted so it didn't look so stupid. The paint started blistering off in about 6 months and we have just completed a repaint at double the original cost. EQC have paid about one third of the repaint cost. The stress comes mainly from waiting 3 years for repairs then arguing for about the same time about the repairs. We are one of the many but are still grateful that we are not living in a garage or car like some still are.

I could be wrong but I understood that double glazed windows had a vacuum between the glass to avoid convection currents of air.

I don't hate cats, I just don't like what other peoples cats leave on my garden of fresh vegetables eaten raw. These roaming cats prevent me from allowing my pets to have a free roam confined to my back yard. Cats should not be allowed to roam freely anymore than dogs should. I don't like eating trout or salmon and I have as much desire to torture them on the end of a fishing line as I do to torture a rabbit or a seagull. Each to their own.

If you use compost as a media the worms feed on that and don't come to the surface. I used old potting mix from a nursery and fed luncheon sausage as food. It works well if you can keep them cool enough in summer.1
