    Discus eggs

As long as you discus has a good shape you can breed him the peeppering may just be from being keept in a dark tank,i have one with a lot of black spots on her and the off spring have very little, the discus you have should be to young to breed or they are runts that have been pasted off on you, i would ring and find out just what age the importer says they are.
  8. If you want to keep discus you should start with a least six fish, they have a pecking order from the boss to the runt, bare bottom is the way to go till they are big enought to put in your main tank,i cant stress enough about cleaning down the glass and water changes, this is the secret if you like to keeping discus.Check out the sites www.dph.nl and simply discus .com, before you buy any more read every thing you can or you will have them dying all the time and be put off . 9. Bunnings have 8x4 sheets for about $8
  10. Can i suggest you stop putting chemicals and other crap in the water, dont treat anything untill you catch it, just give your fish good filtration clean water and good food and they will not need anything else, they will have to adjust to chch water sooner or later, i mean it you will kill them with the rubbish you are putting in there tank.

    white tail

I have been breeding and raising discus for over 25 years both hear and over seas, i have breed at least 1500 discus from four pairs in the last five years, i have 18 at the moment, three breeding pairs that i am bring on, still a bit young yet, but my point is that if you read up and vist the different sites that are a round you will find that discus are very easy to look after, good filtration good food and veriaty clean water and good tank maintainance is all you need, same as any fish. When i buy new fish that are imported i take some care to try and match the water from where they came from, most come from singapore, its very easy to find out the ph etc of the web and the poeple who breed there, i agree that you should not play with the ph its better to have it stable not up and down, of cause chch water is not treated and is very good for drinking so we have a head start.I would not wait six months for a tank to cycle that is crazy, bk has water form other tanks and media as well, that should be more than enough. I will repeat discus are very easy fish to look after.

Redwoods will not import fish that you want ,many people in chch have asked begged and tried, most of the discus he brings in are sold to wholesale outlets and the dregs are left for the rest of us.Critter kingdom are now importing discus but the type breeds are limted, the blue dimonds they have at the monent look quiet good.Feery rd shop has imported discus but the quility is poor and the prices are steep.

  20. If your not suppose to feed discus meat why do all the breeders in the world use it to raise their fish, no there are no cows falling in the rivers but it is well known and there are thousands of artices about beef heart being used to raise discus. All my discus are raised on beef heart till they get to a good size and are then weaned on to tetra bits ,flake and other foods. I have breed and raised over 1200 discus in the last 5 years and it works very well.
  21. The impeler may need to be cleaned and or if the sponge is clogged and dirty you will get some noise. Both these parts should be cleaned on a regular basis.

    Gravel

moues if you look at the www.dph.nl site you will see an article on useing sand for a planted discus tank
  23. I have five jaggers and have had no problems.Because of the extra long lenght they heat up and hold the temp very well.
  24. If you can get to the problem as soon as it happens you can try putting the fish in a tank with just enough water to cover the top and bottom fins, no more, over the next 8 days put appox 20mm of water in each day,if you get to the problem soon enough this does work.Feed very small amounts of food and heater at normal temp.
  25. i seem to remember and peice abbbout small amounts of yeast being used to grow them out but this only worked for 2-3 weeks .
