  2. Hi does anyone know if there is another alternative to put a different covered lid with light that would fit on right size Juwel tank
  3. Earlier
  4. A big circular pool of at least 4k litres is best and cheapest set up, I cut down a 300000 litre water tank a few years ago
  5. Could probably go up to 10,000 litres if i'm using seawater from the ocean and not buying synthetic salt, would this be too small for a horn/carpet shark and or longtail skate long term?
  6. All sharks and rays will outgrow that tank size Ihave kept very young rays and sharks for short periods but they don't take well to captivity
  7. Free big outdoor goldfish that’s been living in our pond for about a decade.
  8. Sorry, this isn't to do with the original topic of the thread but do you know if there are any rays/skates and sharks that are keepable in home aquaria here? My max tank size would probably be around 2200 litres if that isn't too small and what would you feed them? Thanks
  9. Our Guest Speaker will be Nick from Aquaponics New Zealand. We will be at the venue from 9am and ask that anyone attending arrive before 9:50.
  10. That hasn't been my experience with them, they eat fish that have died usually And only attempt to catch fish when not fed enough
  11. Aloevera is toxic to axolotls, do not use this.

  13. EDIT: fish have been rehomed. It took a long time to approve my membership and message here, and during this time I found new homes for the fish. ——— I came home last night from a holiday to find a big crack in my tank and not much water left. There were no casualties luckily and I have put all the fish in two smaller tanks but they can’t stay there for long so I need to move them out ASAP. I have available: 1 white angelfish 4 cherry barbs 4 cardinal tetra 2 pristella tetra 3 harlequin rasbora 1 starlight bristlenose 3 lemon tetra 5 dwarf chain loaches 1 Borneo suckermouth/hillstream loach They are all a couple of years old except for a couple of the cardinal tetras that I got a couple of months ago. Pick up Churton Park
  14. Yeah, I read up on the dardanus hermit crabs, apparently they are all very aggressive and eat fish and aren't really very good at cleaning up
  15. Hi, Ryan how did you go with This? This question was what I myself was wondering after reading my Cory Community tanks temp is on higher side for Peppers, except for my undercover, filtered guppy tank (read my asshole-tank cos of hitchhikers that popped out of bought aquarium plants, and went from three baby guppies to hundreds in two months). The guppies have been given away….now to the tank. It’s planted, filtered. Temp range in Winter will be maybe low approx 8-high 16. (It’s Akld 2024 post pandemic, floods, cyclones & councils haha no one knows the heck what is coming at us anymore 🔮🌬️🌊) I adore my peppered cories, don’t want them to die. My 3 big tropical community inside tanks are getting full though. Yes. Yes I do have a fish addiction. I have accepted this. 😆
  16. This tank is similar size to one you are proposing 2.1 meters x 90cm x 55cm sump 1.8m x 60cm x 60cm, 2hp chiller
  17. No tropical ones availble but we have a local one but usually found in deeper water.
  18. Changed it a bit as mado only eat live food, also dimensions are 200x120x60cm 1 Common Leatherjacket 1 Red Gurnard 3-5 Sweep 1 Spotty Maybe blue maomao, porcupine fish
  19. Hi, can anyone add/comment on my stocking list for a 200x120x40cm aquarium (I could go higher but im trying to make it a shallow thing) 1 Leatherjacket - Definitely want Blue Maomao - Optional Red Mullet Goatfish - Optional 1 Red Gurnard - Definitely want New Zealand Demoiselle - Optional 3 Mado - Definitely want Red Banded Perch - optional Paketi - optional Sweep - optional Everything except for the gurnard, mado and leatherjacket is open to suggestions/change and im not sure of group sizes so any suggestions would be appreciated. (this list is too large for the aquarium size so im looking for help reducing this list) Also where can I collect saltwater/sand within auckland region? Thanks
  20. Anyone want some Java moss? It posts well in a ziplog bag within an envelope so you would get however much I could fit in a business envelope. It squishes well so you can get a good handful. $5.00
  21. Yeah ive looked at the mpi lists - but do you know anything about the anenome hermit crabs?
  22. Hi, you can find lists of tropical marine flora available to be imported to NZ. You can use animals from local rockpools but most won't survive long in constant temperatures over 20 degrees centigrade and also have the potential to carry parasites.
  23. Hi, this is my first post on here but I have been lurking for a while. Does anyone know any cuc/clean up crew that we are allowed here in nz/ can collect for reef tanks that eat algae apart from the turbo snail? I know we can have the longspine urchin but im reluctant because of their sting - my tank is 130x68x35cm. Also I know there are tangs and stuff but I don't really want any in my aquarium for feeding and size reasons. Does anyone know if Dardanus Gemmatus/Jeweled anenome hermit crab eats algae?? Needs to be reef safe and good with 24 degree water
  24. sometimes also the stem plants we buy are grown emersed and they sometimes melt back and come back with submerged growth - also if your running c02 or adding a nutrient to help with that it could be causing it to melt
  25. This is a common problem with stem plants like this and ambulia is good at it. Most likely lack of light as the bushy tops cut off the light to the bottom half. Try thinning it out a bit, if it is too thick.
  26. I've had this problem for a few months now my ambulia keeps turning black I tried to cut off the area which was black but it came back, maybe i missed a spot or soemthing is wrong with the entire plant. If anyone knows how to fix this please tell me 🙂
