Just hope I'm not the first to get the boot

ah nope, someone else has already been banned :D

the thing that bugs me is it will be the mods discretion as to what is considered "too much", regardless of the guidelines. as feelers says, a bit of fun doesnt go astray but there is a very fine line between a bit of fun and going overboard :D also there is no emotion behind the 'written word' and therefore its quite often interpreted incorrectly.

still, perhaps a good idea as there is some mildly abusive and general banter that goes on here :D

Yeah I'd have to say that it has gone overboard on occasion, but it's pretty unusual to get to that level.

I can recall probably 3 things that I thought were over the line.

A month is quite a long time and you can come back as an alter ego anyway, I think a warning or a week ban dependant on an apopoly or something might be an alternative.

A month is an appropriate time to reflect on what's been done. Any less makes it meaningless.

Alter ego's are not allowed on the site (see the guidelines). All new registrations require administrator approval and are checked in some detail. It's pretty difficult to register twice.

The sticky is also in the Announcements area but a copy was added to saltwater as over half the trouble is stirred up in this forum.

Some of you have some concern about what can be a joke and what is over the line. If the post can be interpreted as over the line then don't post. If it's clear it's a joke, feel free to post with no probs. If a post looks like it's borderline we're more than likely to contact you about it. An immediate ban will only be applied if it's absolutely clear the line has been crossed (as it has been recently). All mods and admin try to be as impartial as possible when making decisions.

I think that is how unsubstantiated rumours begin.

True.

Jetskisteve was banned for his VW avatar (if you dont know why, there is no point going into detail) and comments afterwards. BTW he gave me verbal confirmation that I could post this because he says he receives several PM's a day from people requesting prices on various products. While he cannot continue in discussions on this site for 1 month, he did ask me if I could post his email address instead for those wanting to contact him. [email protected]

I assume the above is not breaching the guidelines, simply passing on information. No point having his ban effect anyone else wanting to buy things from him?

Yes, I'd have one suggestion for the moderators, that if a person is banned, it would say so on their avatar, such as is done on Reef Central, so people will not think their pms are being ignored.

Also, while I guess there is a risk of getting banned myself, I generally support the enforcement of the rules, if it had been done from the gitgo we would have been able to have sensible discussions on such things as Zeovit, which has never been allowed to happen on this forum as yet.

Another thing, part of the rise in the popularity of the site is people enjoy the drama, it would be a bad thing to stifle any banter completely, so it will be a difficult path for moderators to walk.

i didnt see steves avatar but if its true then he does have bad taste in cars and thoroughly deserves a ban. 8) i drive subaru and think most other brands are an embarasment to the state of the art roading system we have here in auckland. personally i think other brands should be crushed and dumped on south auckland streets at night, so he should count himself lucky he got off so lightly!!

Steve probably agrees, given he drives a V8 SS Commodore. The avitar was a joke, poking fun at someone else on the fourm who is unfortunate enough to have to drive the little daisy voltswagon. Embarassing.
