Duke
I have added a Sebae anemone to my tank and it has moved around a bit and now is sitting under a rock jamed in to a crack. It can't get any light. My Tomato clown has a new home which is good but I'm worried about the Sebae. Should I lift the rock and move the anemone or let it find its own spot, it has been in my tank 2 days. Thanks for te advice...
Brianemone
sebae's are notoriusly poor adapters to tank life, some people here have them but i would suggest that they are among the more compitent reefers. you can move the rock but the anemone will more than likely move back under the rock as most anemone's are very sensitive to light when introduced to a new tank
slappers
i would leave him, must be happy or he would move ???
cracker
No he wont be happy, he will be sussing out the tank...may take weeks to adjust....just keep an eye on him for failing to survive. They can poison a small tank easily if left to die and decay. If he was healthy and the water is good he will be probably fine. I have 4 x Anemones and am not quite sure why???
Kermit
Leave him for a while he'l come out on his own the biggest mistake people seem to make is trying change the tank surroundings so they can view the anemone and then they get upset and start roaming around again the best thing you can do is let it be and it'l find a place to where it's happy hopefully some where you can enjoy viewing. Duke
My tank is well established and I have good light (new MH 2 x 150w) over 4ft tank. Water condition is good, I tested it yesterday and its all good. My KH is still a little low at 6 Calcum is 460 So as far as water conditions I like to think my tank is very good, so I hope this little fellow will be OK. Must say my Tomato is in very happy.. time will tell.

Aww thanks, Brian. I've been slowly trying to nurse this guy back to health for must be about 9 months. Once I managed to get him on a kind of a peak and he didn't want to head down from there. But it will take a while for him to get used to the light, I think.
Duke
I purchased it from Hollywood on Saturday. It has been moving around the same rock since. I was thnking of moving him again but it apperas the best thing to do is leave it alone. I have not tried to feed it as all the research I have read states that over feeding is one of the biggest killers. It look nice and healthy when I got it and we don't have the dyeing issuies others have overseas (I hope). How long can they go without light? I have one PH in the tank a stream which is in the top corner of the tank away from any rock. It would have to climb the glass to reach it. So I'm keeping a close eye on it. How do you tell if it dies and when to remove it? How long will it need to be in my tank to cause a problem if it does not make it. I don't feel I have done anythng wrong but are worried all the same. Will the clown fish cause it any problems at this stage?
Brianemone
no worries Ira. if the clown is quite big in comparasin to the anemone then it can smother it into an early stage
Ira
Duke, was it white when you bought it? If it was, then it wasn't healthy. That means it's bleached. It's dumped all its zoox and can not photosynthesize any more. You HAVE to feed it otherwise it will starve to death. What I've been doing is feeding mine whitebait. So, go buy a frozen packet of whitebait and feed it one defrosted whitebait every day or two. Probably best to tear it into chunks about half an inch long with your fingers and put them directly into its tentacles.
Duke
Will do. No it was a healthy brown colour. I'll buy some white bait tomorrow and see how it goes.
Duke
Well its still under the rock... day two.... How long do I leave it there?
slappers
if he looks happy just leave him
reef
Just leave it, if it is getting lots of current and light it will move to a spot it likes. no need to feed it yet, just needs time to settle.
Duke
Wow thank you all.. If you are reading this then I think you. You are a true enthusiasts and care about this hobby. I got home (6pm) to find my anemone STILL behind the rock and all shrivelled up. The wife said it was not like this when she got home! (I had been at Hollywood North Shore and having never been there before had to buy something… new clam… OH my only clam (tight wife) and realised my MH are too low at 60mm, theirs are way high at 200mm, I have lifted mine too 170mm as soon as I got home without looking at anything else. Then I look at the tank. 250watt x 2-MH)But who can you trust, not the wife – she know nothing… (but usually right at my house) in the marine world. So the anemone is still behind the rock all shrivelled up and I freak. I can’t wait for a thread on the web. I need answers NOW. So I decided it ring around for help with fellow reef owners (people I have only meet once or not at all) and no one was at home, but within 20min two people had rang (only phoned two) offering help. Wow now that is support!!!! Back to the point. A shrivelled up anemone is rather boring / annoying and cost $95 and everyone said DON’T move so I did not…But it came back to life and blow up all nice behind the rock! I tried to feed it and it closed up around my twisters and dropped the food again and I expect this is normal. I removed the tweezers and it dropped the food but it look like it tried. Still behind the rock. After a while it was looking great behind the rock so I turned the rock around, so I CAN SEE IT and are now waiting. It’s little mouth (jailbirds bum looking) closed right up to my size. Law abiding, good person. Moved my stream and created a little whorl pool in front of the anemone. It looks very happy with its foot dug in tight. So time will tell if it is happy and does not move AGAIN. So a rather large softy is now behind the rock… I’ll cut it off if anemone does not move. Ha the clown fish are rubbing the spot the anemone was.. That’s dumb! Chee
