PENEJANE
Awesome. Do you have any pictures of the ones you have? or a link to a site where you host your pictures? Might have to stop by if we are ever up that way over the holidays. Looks like our day trip could be out the window now with husband being summoned to work. GRRRRR! MRSkz
ok I keep hearing NZKA would someone like to give me the run down on what it's about and all?
Caryl
Simple. The NZKA is a postal group only who share information, eggs and fish (all killies of course). They meet once a year for their AGM and often have a fish show at the same time. Great fun. I have attended a couple of them as we used to have the FNZAS exec meets at the same time and place when several people were members of both. They are dedicated to keeping the species alive and growing in NZ. They are affiliated to the FNZAS so all NZKA members also get free Aquarium World magazines and a Year Book plus the discounts offered by some retailers exclusively to FNZAS members. PENEJANE
Well who ever it is that is comming down this way at christmas can sign me up :bounce: :bounce: I got my new 2ft tank today WOO HOO which will house the solid blacks and albinos. I probably won't get any killies straight away as it took a lot of convincing to get this tank today. My other tanks are to wait till my husband is back at work next year and I guess I can wait a month or two But in the mean time I will sign up when Aquanut (I think its you, correct me if I am wrong) comes down this way. Cheers

MRSkz
ok so from what I've seen the NZKA IS only for killies, is that right?
caserole
yep, but your allowed to keep other fish too
Alan
Whatdaya mean only killies?? Most of us have other types of fish. But when it becomes an obsession with you, like some who shall remain nameless, you will end up with a fish room or shed, and lots and lotsa tanks. Albeit small ones. Fun tho. PENEJANE
Southern Man I have added you to my msn if thats ok. I thought it would be easier to talk directly (well as direct as a computer can get) than pm messages. I don't know when I will be up in dunners but it would be nice to maybe drop by and see your tanks and your selection of killies and if I have things set up right I might buy some off you or eggs anyway hehe. So yeah just letting you know that penenolan is my email for msn so you know who it is Cheers
MRSkz
ok see I was thinking it was a general fishy thing. I'm really not into killies, just the one type Chromaphyosemion Bitaeniatum. I'm really more fond of the bettas (which after atempt after atempt to breed I'm ready to strangel) or the guppies (which I wish would STOP breeding) or the cichlids (which I wish would breed again). Is there a NZCA (cichlid group)?
Caryl
No there isn't but there are various fish clubs around the country. The NZKA is the only club to specialise in a specific fish (although we do have the online poecilia club but not sure what is happening to that lot and they have yet to be organised enough to affiliate it appears). There has been talk of restarting the Invercargill club but nobody seems to be willing to start the ball rolling. You can join a club from elsewhere if there is none near you. Dunedin would be closest and they have an excellent newsletter they would post to you. Even if you were unable to travel to meetings you would still have that contact (and membership to the FNZAS). Faran
Yeah, start a new fishclub for all you members in the far south! From what I've seen, you guys seem to have a growing number of members down there. CARYL- I believe the poecilia club was taken over, turned into a livebearer club and fell apart due to lack of/problems with leadership/organization... that's what I heard, at least. No clue from personal experience. Back to the topic - Killies are an interesting fish - most interesting due to the relatively short "annual" lifespans. Absolutely stunning colourations, I hope that they evolve longer life spans through generations of fish keeping.
PENEJANE
I am looking into getting some bitaeniatum eggs (hopefully) I was wondering what conditions do they need to hatch? I was going to put them into the albinos half of the 2ft since I have discovered that my albino isn't interested in sex at all . I am able to get foam tubing that is cut so I can slide it over the top of the divider to sit hard up against the glass lid. The temp sits at about 25-27*C (27*C being towards evening) I can lower the heat a little bit but guppies are on the other side and I don't want to lower it to far to affect them. So would this be ok for them? Cheers
PENEJANE
Hey all once again I was wanting to know who has what eggs available at the moment. I have joined the NZKA and would really like to give this a go. So if you could please let me know what is available (so I can look them up) and if possible prices of eggs and shipping. Cheers
Alan
Hi PJ, this is where the Species Controller should be answering, but as they don't seem to come on here any more I can only suggest at the moment to get in touch with kylefish02, he has had some photos up and also he has had spares on TradeMe. Caserole may also be able to help too. Those are the ones that I know of that are or have been, having a bit of success with them. To get their PM or email. go to the main Killie Thread, and scoll through till you find one started or last answered by either or both of them. Cheers Hope that helps PJ Have a good Christmas Alan
PENEJANE
Yes I have spoken to both of them and none of them have anything yet. Thats why I was asking who else has stuff. I am hoping to go and see southern man over the holidays but since he is working and my husband being made to go on call for a week during his holidays (totaly sucks) I don't know what our chances are of actualy getting to see Southern Man. I just wanted to know who had what from on these forums. Cheers
PENEJANE
Has anyone got any killie eggs available yet? If so what kind do you have to offer. My trip up to see southern man has been cancled due to my computer blowing up (on husbands at the moment) and spending the petrol money to get me another motherboard. I am still waiting to hear back from Aquanut for the gardneri albino. I have a 2ft tank setup and waiting. Kinda boring with just water and plants in the tank hehe. Cheers :bounce:
Alan
Penejane, put a couple of small fish into the setup while awaiting replies. This will get the tank cycling, then when your requests come through, the tank will be ready. Alan
PENEJANE
the tank is already cycled as it was the very first tank I got april last year. The fish were removed Thursday last week. It still has snails in it and I was going to add a couple of bristlenoses tonight. Thanks for the info though Alan. Cheers :bounce:
