Adrienne
When did you last water change? For the fish to come to the top like that there is something in the water that they are reacting to or the water is not holding enough oxygen so they come to the top where there is more water movement, therefore more oxygen exchange (this means that the water movement is letting nasty gas out and fresh oxygen in). What is your tank temperature as a hot tank can also reduce the amount of oxygen available to the fish.
Silverdollarboy2
I did 3 water changes last week. I have an air pump. My eheim jager heaters 150w set at 22c 200w set at 26c The thermometer says the water is at 29c that doesn't seem right?
Ira
I did 3 water changes last week. I have an air pump. My eheim jager heaters 150w set at 22c 200w set at 26c The thermometer says the water is at 29c that doesn't seem right? Why wouldn't that be right? The temp settings on heaters are rubbish unless they've been calibrated. It sounds like you haven't done that, so you have a 150w heater set and noclueC and another set at noclueC. You should never set a heater at the temp you want on it and then assume your tank is that temp.
Adrienne
Did you or someone calibrate the heaters for you? How long have you had them in the tank? The tank is too hot for the silver dollars at 29 degrees. Check to see if the heater lights are on - if so it may be faulty. If not, turn the one set to 26 down a couple of degrees in the meantime and see if the temperature drops overnight. Your clown loaches will be able to easily handle a drop in temperature to the level your silver dollars are happier at.
Silverdollarboy2
No the heaters aren't calibrated. How do you calibrate them? The 150w has been in the tank for 7 months and the 200w hasbeen in there since the tank got set up (3 years). shall I turn it down to 23c and see if it's around 26 in the morning? Adrienne
Sorry I was asleep by the time you posted last night. If the temp is still up and particularly if the heater light is on turn it down and see if it goes off. You may need a new heater if its not functioning properly. Silver dollars are happiest around 22 - 23 and your clown loaches could cope with this if the tank cools down slowly.

Silverdollarboy2
You will see that he has a bloated tummy...could he have worms?
Godly3vil
Worms don't usually bloat the fish, more show up with a concaved tummy. Also that fish looks extremely small for being 3 years old?
Silverdollarboy2
It is with sadness that I have had to put down my little mate of some three years :dead%fish. It had some crappy looking contents in it gut and what appears to be eggs even though it was a male. It keep floating to the top of the tank and had heaps of trouble swimming down to the rest of the school. This little fish came from a very overstocked tank ie 75 fish...thats nother story Any ideas? Ira
Yeah, that definitely doesn't look right. I don't know if I'd call the brown stuff crap, since it's usually food colored.
