WillskE
while i was clearing out a tank, just as i pulled a master pet 150w heater above water i saw steam/smoke coming out from it so i lowered back in the water and it made a loud noise and cracked in halve when i turned off the power, what was weird was that when i noticed the smoke the ON indicator was off, perhaps its a malfunction? Matto
glass doesn't work well with sudden temperature changes, always turn them off before removing from the tank

Ira
what was weird was that when i noticed the smoke the ON indicator was off, perhaps its a malfunction? Operator malfunction definitely :slfg: The thermostat is likely to flip off as the whole body and electronic s get superheated. Bit then its still something like 200 degrees. It likely would havw been fine if you had unplugged it and waited for it to cool.
disgustipated
yep. as i have learned. if you pull a heater out of a tank while it is still on, even if for just seconds, it's best to leave it out of the tank to cool, rather than to suddenly put it back in the tank (as instincts would tell you to) as the sudden cooling of the glass with make it crack. ryanjury
It's a good science experiment, there are videos of people using the old Jager heaters heating them up to red hot and plunging them in to water and they didn't break, it was supposed to illistrate the quality of the jagers.. land_lubber
I've had an Aqua One heater do that and put white powder through my tank as well as glass.
